Todd Howard Addresses Demand for Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters
While making the rounds to promote the second season of Fallout, Todd Howard was asked about the future of the franchise and how soon fans might be able to get their hands on remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. While he didn’t get into too many specifics, he did have a positive update for Fallout fans who may be eager to see what comes next.
Players have been asking Bethesda Game Studios to remaster or remake both Fallout 3 and New Vegas for years, and while there are plenty of rumors floating around the internet about such projects, nothing has ever been made official. Fans have long debated which franchise entry deserves a remaster more, with many gamers leaning in favor of the beloved New Vegas. However, it’s worth noting that Fallout television series executive producer Jonathan Nolan claims Fallout 3 is his favorite title in the franchise. It’s a little bit of a controversial take, especially since the show itself is heading to the location of New Vegas in its second season. However, in a perfect world, fans of the franchise may one day be able to experience both games with a fresh coat of paint at some point in the future.
Leaker Gives Update on Fallout 3 Remastered
A prominent leaker gives fans an update about Fallout 3 Remastered, a rumored project that has not been officially unveiled by Bethesda yet.
Todd Howard Hears Fallout 3 and New Vegas Fans Loud and Clear
In a recent post on Twitter, Screentime shared a clip of Todd Howard speaking to Dexerto about the possibility of Fallout 3 and New Vegas receiving remasters, something that has been highly requested by fans for quite some time. When asked about the Fallout Day stream where people in the comments were asking for the remasters, Howard said that he wants to “let people know we see it, we’re working on a whole bunch of stuff and, you know, we look forward to the day that we can reveal them.” That might not be a lot to go on, but it’s clear that Bethesda Game Studios has multiple projects in the works, which players will likely find out about in due time. It’s worth noting that rumors about these remasters have been circulating around the internet for a while, which is exactly what happened prior to the release of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.
Todd Howard went on to discuss his strategy behind waiting to reveal projects until they’re closer to release. In the interview, he stated that he likes to work backwards from the moment where a player actually boots up a title. For instance, he mentioned the shadow drop of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered earlier this year and how that allowed many gamers to go into the experience fresh. Howard also added that “we’re pretty thoughtful about how we approach that, and sometimes that means that we just don’t talk about stuff for years.” It’s not surprising that Howard might be looking at Oblivion Remastered‘s launch as a recipe for success, as the title pulled in over nine million players in its first three months on the market.
It seems as if Todd Howard isn’t the only person looking to replicate the launch of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, as other members of the team were clearly impressed by its performance as well. In a recent discussion with GamesRadar+, Bethesda Game Studios Director Tom Mustaine said that he would “love to see” more shadow drops like Oblivion Remastered in the future. He also stated that it was “great to own the internet for a day” and sees the ability to give players exactly what they want as soon as it’s announced as a valuable strategy. With talks of remasters in the air and Season 2 of the hit Fallout television show just around the corner, many fans are feeling optimistic about the future of the franchise.
