GTA 6 Fans Make an Interesting Discovery in the Latest Grand Theft Auto Online Update
Eagle-eyed Grand Theft Auto 6 fans have discovered a backported asset in the most recent Grand Theft Auto Online update, which was released on December 10 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. With both Grand Theft Auto 6 and new Grand Theft Auto Online updates seemingly being developed alongside each other, it looks like developer Rockstar Games is attempting to save time and resources by reusing newly made items from the next installment in the series.
Earlier this week, the highly anticipated ‘A Safehouse in the Hills’ update for Grand Theft Auto Online was released. The major free patch added tons of new content to the game, with the biggest addition being purchasable luxury properties. Alongside the three new mansions added to the game, which will set players back between 11 and 12 million each, the update also saw the return of Michael De Santa, one of Grand Theft Auto 5‘s three main protagonists. Michael is now the third and final main character to make his return, as both Trevor Phillips and Franklin Clinton have appeared in previous content updates.

GTA 6 Fans Spot Reused Asset In GTA Online
It may have only been a few days since the update was released, but one eagle-eyed player noticed how a towel around a character’s neck in Grand Theft Auto Online is identical to one seen in a trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6. At first glance, it may seem like just a towel, but comparing the two side by side shows how the folds in each one are identical to each other. The revelation has garnered over 8,000 upvotes, with fans shocked that the poster managed to spot such a small detail. Some rightly pointed out that although it is the exact same towel, it does appear to look much better in Grand Theft Auto 6. Some think it is simply because the game will have better lighting, while others believe the texture is of a higher quality in the upcoming title.
This isn’t the first time that fans have made such a discovery, as this same situation has occurred multiple times over the last year. Earlier this year, shortly after the release of the game’s second trailer, fans noticed that anecklace seen in a promotional screenshot for Grand Theft Auto 6 can be purchased in GTA Online. The necklace in question can be seen on Cal Hampton for the upcoming title, but can also be found at Ponsonbys in GTA Online for $35,000, named Marble Stone Necklace.
With Grand Theft Auto 6 a little under a year away from release, and support for Grand Theft Auto Online still ongoing, it isn’t surprising that Rockstar is reusing assets from its upcoming title as a way to cut back on resources and development time. This could also be the final year of support for Grand Theft Auto Online, as the future of the title still remains a mystery. After 12 years of content updates and improvements, many are expecting Grand Theft Auto 6 to feature its own online multiplayer component, which will take fans to the streets of Vice City to build a whole new empire. It’s possible that servers for the current iteration of Grand Theft Auto Online will remain online, but it’s unlikely to see any new content added to the game once Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally released.
This is also assuming that Grand Theft Auto 6 actually releases next year. The highly anticipated title was initially due to launch in Fall 2025, before being delayed to May 26, 2026. Given Rockstar’s history with game delays, this didn’t come as much of a surprise. However, rumors then began circulating that another delay was imminent, despite Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick insisting the company was confident in the set date. But Rockstar once again left fans disappointed when it announced another delay to Grand Theft Auto 6, pushing the title back to November 19, 2026. Some believe a third delay is also on the cards, but this would be unprecedented for the studio, as it has never delayed a game more than twice.
