Exodus Gets a New Story Trailer at The Game Awards 2025
Wizards of the Coast and Archetype Entertainment debuted a brand new story trailer for Exodus during The Game Awards 2025, giving eager fans even more to be excited about. The upcoming sci-fi RPG is being dubbed a spiritual successor to the Mass Effect series, due partly to its vibe and graphics and also because development of Exodus, the studio’s debut project, is being led by BioWare veteran James Ohlen.
First revealed during The Game Awards 2023, the action-adventure game immediately grabbed the attention of sci-fi fans. Not only does it look like it will deliver an epic adventure, but the character C.C. Orlev will be voiced by actor Matthew McConaughey, of Interstellar fame, in his first ever video game role.
New Exodus Trailer Unveiled During The Game Awards 2025
Archetype and Wizards of the Coast shared a new Exodus trailer during The Game Awards 2025 on December 11, giving fans a more in-depth look at protagonist Jun Aslan, a hero in the making who comes from humble beginnings. The game takes place 40,000 years in the future, after humans have fled a dying Earth and settled on the planet Lidon. But things are going wrong on their new home: life support systems and terraforming engines are faltering and a strange force called the Rot is threatening everything.
As the Traveler, Jun must lead humanity in its fight against the Celestials, evolved descendants of humans, and set out on interstellar missions to find an alien technology called Celestial Remnants. Along the way, the hero will travel across the galaxy and explore new worlds, while being mentored by C.C. Orlev, a mysterious guide whose location and motives remain unclear.
Being created using Unreal Engine 5, Exodus promises a lot that will draw in fans of sci-fi and role-playing games. Players will enjoy the usual RPG fare: unlocking weapons and abilities, interacting with and perhaps romancing companions, discovering useful combat synergies, and developing a playstyle that can focus on stealth or diving right into the fray.
The moral choices players make during the game will also influence how companions, factions, and society react to Jun over time, and this can have an impact for generations. Exodus features a time-dilation mechanic that occurs as the Traveler moves through the universe at the edge of lightspeed. So Jun may find, upon returning from a journey, that his decisions have had a great and immediate effect on the world and people around him.
