You can access Dream Islands in Pokopia pretty early on in the game, and they’re well worth your time in terms of efficiently gathering large volumes of resources. With some early-game abilities and a bit of exploration outside the confines of the first section of Withered Wasteland — the first zone in the game — you’ll be able to visit a Dream Island.

This guide will help you every step of the way, including how to find Drifloon, Drifloon’s habitat, how to visit Dream Islands, and how to make the most of the resources and rare Pokémon you can find there.

Pokopia Drifloon Habitat: How to Find and Befriend the Ghost/Flying Pokémon

Drifloon can be found on the beach area on the west coast of Withered Wasteland. To get there, you’ll need to have learned the Rock Smash ability from Hitmonchan and smashed the fragile boulders to the west of the area’s Pokemon Center. You’ll get a request from Squirtle to smash this wall anyway, if you haven’t already.

Head through this gap, and you’ll be in the coastal area you’re looking for: the island where you get Eevee is straight ahead, with a cave area where you rescue Onix to your right. Drifloon should be straight ahead of you once you’ve smashed the rocks and, once you’ve spoken with the Ghost/Flying type Pokémon, it’ll ask you to build it a home.

The Pokopia habitat you need to construct for Drifloon is Riding Warm Updrafts, which is three Campfires next to each other. You can craft them on a workbench for Sturdy Stick x1 and Stone x1, each. Once you’ve built and placed them, you’ll need to light them, however: get Charmander, or another Pokémon with the Burn ability, to follow you towards the campfires and it’ll light them for you.

Where to Get a Drifloon Doll in Pokopia

The thing is, before you can visit a Dream Island, you’ll need to give Drifloon a Doll. There are seven types of Pokopia Dolls, and the easiest to find early on is by using Rock Smash on the fragile boulders to the east of the area’s Pokémon Center. Once you’ve broken them, there will be a rock glowing immediately to your right indicating that there’s an item to be claimed inside. Smash this to pick up an Eevee Doll.

Dolls can also be used to make the Bed With a Plush habitat (Bed (any) x1, Doll (any) x1), which attracts Drifloon, Slowbro, Slowking, and Munchlax.

The other fixed Pokopia doll locations include a Pikachu Doll and an Eevee doll in a derelict house in the southwestern corner of Bleak Beach. The remaining dolls are found randomly in the world by smashing glowing blocks, so keep your eyes peeled for those, with your treasure-hunting Dowsing Machine for a helping hand.

Pokopia Dream Island: Everything You Need to Know

The type of doll you find will determine the resources found in the corresponding Dream Island, of which there are five types. For example, the Eevee Doll takes you to the Wasteland Dream Island, in which you can farm Leppa Berry, Vine Rope, and Glowing Mushrooms. Here are all the different dolls, the Dream Islands associated with them, and the resources you can get:

When you speak to Drifloon in the home you created for it, with a Doll in your possession, you’ll have the conversation option for you to be transported to a Dream Island. You can also summon Drifloon by interacting with a Doll on the ground. Before you leave, you’ll be shown the type of Dream Island you’re headed to, and the basic resources you can expect to farm there. If you’re happy, you’re ready to make your journey.

Once you’re at your island, you’re free to go wild and claim as many resources as you can. When you’re done, you can either use the ‘Return Home’ prompt on your Pokédex, or speak to Drifloon, to make your way home.

Do Dream Islands Reset in Pokopia?

You can only visit one island each day, but you can visit the same instance of that island as many times as you like on that same day. In other words, you can come back to the same island, but the resources won’t be restored for you to just keep farming resources repeatedly.

Also, if you choose a Dream Island to visit, you won’t be able to visit another on that same day. Once the next day rolls around, you’re good to go and visit a different Dream Island, so long as you have the associated Doll for it.

Pokopia Dream Island Legendary Pokémon: What Else Can You Find on Dream Islands?

While you’re told about the three most common resources, there’s much more to be found. If you properly explore each Dream Island, especially in underground cave areas, you have a chance to find habitat information, plus collectibles like CDs, papers, and haircuts. You may also find other rare materials such as Pokémetal, which you can use to make items with photographic information on a 3D printer.

You can also get Stardust, an item unique to Dream Islands. You’ll find them on all Dream Island types, typically on sandy, coastal, and cave areas. When you pick up your first one, you’ll unlock the recipe for a Star Piece (Stardust x99).

You can give a Star Piece to a Pokémon you encounter via Link Play in exchange for a gift. Naturally, you’ll need a Switch Online subscription to play Pokopia in multiplayer. If you open this gift next to a vacant habitat or home, the same type of Pokémon to whom you gave the Star Piece will appear in your game.

You may also stumble upon legendary Pokémon in Pokopia’s special islands. However, it appears that you can only persuade these special beasts to join you back in your world if you have completed the region to which they belong. For example, to get Suicune in the Wasteland Dream World, you’ll need to have raised the humidity enough in Withered Wasteland to free Onix from the caves, which completes that area. If you are able to get these super-rare Pokémon to follow you back, your Environment Level will increase significantly.
