I Have a Theory About Fallout Season 2, and All Signs Point Towards Season 3 Heading to This Location
This article contains spoilers for Fallout Season 2 up to episode 5.
Season 2 of Amazon Prime’s hit Fallout series has been a roller coaster so far, and we’re only up to episode 5. I had high hopes for Fallout Season 2 as it headed to the site of my favorite Fallout game, Fallout: New Vegas, and so far, the season hasn’t disappointed between the iconic Mojave Wasteland locations, engaging character arcs, and fun Easter eggs for longtime fans. At this point in the season, I’m fairly confident I know where the series is headed, and there is a lot of evidence to support my theory.
While Amazon Prime has confirmed that Fallout Season 3 is happening, further details about the next season are scarce. Obviously, we’ll have to see how the current season ends to speculate on how it could affect the series’ future, but the pieces of the plot have all been laid bare for fans to start putting together. Looking over the events of Fallout Season 2 so far, I have a theory that lays out how the series will lead Lucy, The Ghoul, and Maximus east to the Capitol Wasteland of Fallout 3 for the upcoming third season.
Fallout Season 2 Episode 4’s Biggest Reveal May Be a Bombshell for Fallout 5
While no details about Fallout 5 have been shared by Bethesda, one twist in Fallout Season 2 may hint at the setting for the game series’ next entry.
Why I Think Fallout Season 2 is Setting Up Season 3 to Head to the Capital Wasteland
The Fallout TV series seems to slowly be working its way east across iconic locations from the video game series. Season 1 primarily took place in the California wasteland of the original Fallout 1 and Fallout 2. Now, Season 2 takes the series to the Mojave Wasteland of Fallout: New Vegas, leaving the East Coast of the US untouched by the Amazon Prime show thus far. Based on a few key plot points introduced in Fallout Season 2, I have a few pieces of evidence that support the idea that the Capital Wasteland will be the setting of Season 3.
It’s possible that the Fallout TV series goes to locations not explored by the games, but that seems unlikely.
The Brotherhood of Steel’s Civil War Will Push Maximus East Toward the Commonwealth
Unlike Season 1, Maximus hasn’t interacted with Lucy at all in Fallout Season 2, instead navigating the impending civil war brewing within the Brotherhood of Steel. After Maximus murders Xander, the representative from the Commonwealth branch of the Brotherhood, and attempts to kill Elder Quintus, tensions between the chapters are boiling over, and a civil war seems like an inevitable part of Season 3. If the West Coast Brotherhood of Steel intends to fight this war, they will likely need to head east to the Commonwealth, setting Maximus up to follow suit. The Commonwealth is further north of the Capital Wasteland, but it’s possible that the two factions clash in the Capital Wasteland before the West Coast chapters reach the Commonwealth.
Fallout Season 2 Will Likely Need to Address the FEV Elephant in the Room
A massive reveal in Fallout Season 2 Episode 5 is the introduction of the FEV into the TV show’s plot. After Norm discovers an entry about the FEV on a Vault-Tec computer, a Chekov’s Gun has suddenly been introduced that will need to fire sooner or later. The FEV, or Forced Evolutionary Virus, was developed by West Tek and utilized by factions like The Master, Vault-Tec, and the Enclave as an attempt to elevate humanity to the next stage of evolution, resulting in the creation of Super Mutants, a major faction in the Fallout franchise.
It’s not clear how the FEV will factor into the rest of Fallout Season 2, but I have a feeling it will be leading up to the introduction of Super Mutants, which have been absent in the TV series so far. The Capital Wasteland is also the ideal location to bring the Super Mutants into the Amazon Prime show given the vast amount of territory they control there.
The Super Mutants of the Capital Wasteland differ from those on the West Coast, who were created by the Master, being the result of FEV experiments in Vault 87.
A New Antagonist May Be Emerging in the Enclave
For being such a major overarching antagonist in the Fallout franchise, the Enclave has been surprisingly quiet in the TV series, only really appearing in Season 1 when Siggi Wilzig defects from the faction to give Moldaver access to Cold Fusion technology. However, it seems like the Enclave is about to make its grand resurgence in the Fallout TV show, with the introduction of the FEV as a new plot point along with Mr. House’s foreboding warning that an unknown entity will be the one to cause the bombs to drop. Based on the other factors that have started coalescing around this season, I think this unknown entity is the Enclave, especially after a detail was discovered by another Fallout fan on Reddit.
Mr. House’s Doomsday Prediction Occurs on a Date Referenced in Fallout 3
Found by Reddit user GonkDroid28, Fallout 3‘s Broken Steel DLC contains a very suspicious reference to the date Mr. House’s algorithm produced its end-of-the-world prediction. Near the end of the Presidential Metro near the Enclave’s headquarters at Adams Air Force Base, there is a computer that notes it was activated on April 14, 2065 at 5:20 AM, which is almost precisely the date and time Mr. House’s algorithm produced its doomsday scenario prediction. With this missing link found, I’m convinced that the Enclave is responsible for the bombs dropping and will emerge as the main villain of Season 3.
Fallout’s Strange Steam Behavior is a False Alarm, or At Least, I Hope It Is
While Fallout fans are latching on to the recent Steam strangeness as proof of Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters, I’m hoping the info means nothing.
The Rumored Fallout 3 Remake Would Be the Perfect Way to Prepare Fans for Season 3
The final nail in the coffin that convinces me that Fallout Season 3 will be set in the Capital Wasteland is that it would be the perfect excuse for Bethesda to release the rumored Fallout 3 Remastered in anticipation of the new season. Although there wasn’t time for a Fallout: New Vegas remaster to be released before Season 2, the recent Steam activity for Fallout 3 suggests a remaster or remake release will be happening very soon. This release could potentially even coincide with the Fallout Season 2 finale set to air on February 4, if the final episode of the season ends up teasing the Capital Wasteland for the next season, much like the ending of Season 1 teased New Vegas.
There’s no guarantee that Fallout Season 3 will take place in the Capital Wasteland. It could very well go to the Appalachian Wasteland from Fallout 76 or the Commonwealth from Fallout 4. However, all the hints the season have dropped so far, along with the rumored Fallout 3 Remastered, make it seem like the show is gearing up to take fans east to face the Enclave in the Capital Wasteland.
