Rainbow Six Siege Players Are Getting Banned for 67 Days

By newsgame

Ubisoft appears to have suffered another hack of its popular multiplayer shooter game Rainbow Six Siege, with players reporting being banned for 67 days. This hack comes only a few days after Ubisoft restored Rainbow Six Siege servers after taking them offline temporarily on December 27 following a previous hacking attempt. Whether this is an entirely new hack or if the servers are still exposed from this previous attempt is unclear.

Rainbow Six Siege has a massive online community and is one of Ubisoft’s most popular games, with a strong player base that still sees over 50,000 concurrent players on Steam alone, even 10 years after its initial launch. As such, it’s not surprising for a game of this tenure to suffer hacking attempts over the course of its life. However, two back-to-back hacks have some players calling into question the security of Ubisoft’s servers.

Rainbow Six Siege is Hacked Again, with Players Reportedly Being Banned for 67 Days

According to X user vx-underground, the servers for Rainbow Six Siege have been compromised, and players are reporting logging on to find that their account has been banned for 67 days. Players may see this screen saying that they have been banned for a “Harrassment Offense” even if they haven’t violated any of Rainbow Six Siege‘s community guidelines. This reasoning, combined with the 67-day ban, is a sure sign that the servers have been hacked, since the number 67 has become commonly associated with the popular “6 7” meme.

Additionally, the server status for Rainbow Six Siege, as listed on Ubisoft’s website, shows that there are several unplanned issues across all platforms. This further suggests that a major hack has occurred, and is not limited to a particular platform. Connectivity is showing as degraded, while Authentication, In-Game Store, and Matchmaking are all showing as being down entirely. Some players are also reporting a “synchronization failed” error message when attempting to log in.

Rainbow Six Siege Has Now Been Hacked in the Course of a Week

Previously, Rainbow Six Siege servers had to be taken offline by Ubisoft on December 27 after a hacking incident that affected the game’s marketplace. During this incident, some players reportedly received massive amounts of store credits out of the blue, and developer-only skins appeared on servers. While the players affected by this hack may have seen the free credits as a pleasant surprise, Ubisoft quickly rolled back the transactions made using credits from this hack without banning any players who had attempted to purchase items from the marketplace using these ill-gotten credits.

Ubisoft restored the servers on December 28, which resulted in reports of increased login times and login queues. However, a week later, it seems like players should brace for another temporary Rainbow Six Siege server shutdown after this latest hacking attempt has taken hold. Ubisoft has not yet addressed this issue, and it’s unclear if the banned players will have their accounts unbanned before the 67-day period is up. However, given the nature of the situation, Rainbow Six Siege players will likely regain access to their accounts without serving the ban.

Ubisoft has delayed its earnings report the day it was supposed to release it.

This series of Rainbow Six Siege hacks comes at an unfortunate time for the game, as Ubisoft recently launched an Attack on Titan crossover with Rainbow Six Siege that allowed players to dress up Amaru as Mikasa Ackerman. Alongside this Attack on Titan collab is Rainbow Six Siege‘s Operation Tenfold Pursuit, which offers rewards like the Roister and Great Consequence for players who complete daily challenges. Players who have been victims of this 67 ban wave may lose out on opportunities to earn these rewards, giving Ubisoft an even greater reason to deal with the server hack swiftly.
