ARC Raiders Player Suffers Hilarious One in a Million Lightning Strike Death
An ARC Raiders player has suffered an in-game death so unfortunate that I’m almost certain nobody else has ever experienced anything like it. While the most common way for ARC Raiders players to be eliminated is from either other Raiders or ARC enemies, it is also possible to be taken out by certain map modifiers, such as the electromagnetic wave. Although it is rare to be completely killed by a lightning strike in-game, this player managed to experience something never seen before.
Encounters with other players and hilarious situations, such as the one this player found themselves in, are just some of the reasons why ARC Raiders has been one of the most successful games of the year. At launch, the game peaked at more than 481,000 concurrent players on Steam, making it one of the most-played titles on the platform. Even nearly two months on, Embark’s extraction shooter still maintains an average of 300,000 Steam users at peak times, so it should come as no surprise to learn that ARC Raiders was awarded Best Multiplayer Game at The Game Awards 2025 last week. It had some stiff competition, with the likes of Battlefield 6, Split Fiction, Peak, and Elden Ring Nightreign also nominated.

A severe ARC Raiders bug seemingly prevents some players from progressing through their Expedition Project, as fans call for an urgent fix.
ARC Raiders Player Experiences Rare Lightning Strike Death
ARC Raiders is full of wonderful surprises, encounters, and experiences. While dying in-game and losing all of your hard-earned gear and items can be frustrating, one player has left the community amazed by experiencing the most unfortunate death so far. In a new post on Reddit, user Timeline40 published a short clip of them jumping from one side of the Launch Towers on Spaceport to the other. While this is usually a relatively simple jump that is almost hard to mess up, this player managed to jump at the exact wrong time, being struck by lightning while mid-air and plummeting to their death. Thankfully, they were playing with a friend, so we hope that they managed to get revived in time and didn’t lose their gear.
This incident isn’t something fans should worry about in every single game. Not only is it incredibly rare, but it’s also only possible while on the Electromagnetic Storm map modifier. However, the community appears to be absolutely loving this hilarious death. In just a few days, the post has accumulated over 15,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments. One user said that they “burst out laughing” at the clip, while another praised ARC Raiders as an “incredible” game. One player even shared a clip of a similar experience that they had, but with a much different outcome. Instead of being hit by the lightning strike mid jump, they fell between the towers and were actually saved by the strike at the bottom as it miraculously prevented them from taking fall damage.
Being eliminated in an extraction shooter such as ARC Raiders can be frustrating, but hilarious deaths such as this one are easier to take. A huge talking point since the game’s release has been about PvP and “rats” that betray players after befriending them. Some believe that players should be punished for doing it, while others note how ARC Raiders is a PvPvE game, which means anything is fair game. However, fans may want to be cautious about how often they betray fellow players, as it has recently been reported that Embark Studios employs a matchmaking system that monitors ARC Raiders players’ behavior and pairs them accordingly. This means that there’s a chance your lobbies could be full of backstabbers if you’ve made a habit of doing it yourself.
ARC Raiders players have plenty to look forward to this week, as Embark is gearing up to release the highly anticipated Cold Snap update today, December 16. The patch will bring a new Snowfall map condition to the game, which will have some serious gameplay implications and could result in even more hilarious deaths. There’s also a fresh Raider Deck, a new event, and much more.
