Switch 2 Is Getting One of the Biggest Co-Op Horror Games of the Last 5 Years Soon
Kinetic Games is bringing its co-op horror hit Phasmophobia to the Nintendo Switch 2. Currently targeting a 2026 release, the newly announced port is poised to be a big boon to the Switch 2 library of multiplayer horror games.
Phasmophobia is a co-op experience that sends teams of up to four investigators into haunted locations to gather evidence and identify various ghosts while simultaneously managing their sanity. Originally debuted as a PC exclusive in September 2020, it made its way to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in October 2024. While it has yet to leave early access, Phasmophobia has already achieved immense success on consoles and PC alike. In July 2025, developer Kinetic reported that the game had surpassed 25 million sales, making it one of the biggest horror titles of the 2020s, both in the co-op space and more broadly.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 could be fertile grounds for these spooky horror games to finally get their first Switch port.
Phasmophobia Nintendo Switch 2 Version Announced at The Game Awards 2025
Kinetic used the 2025 edition of The Game Awards to announce yet another version of Phasmophobia, revealing that its hit horror game is currently in development for the Switch 2. While no exact release date was provided, the British studio says it’s targeting a 2026 launch. The Switch 2 port will be a digital-only release, as is the case with the co-op survival horror game’s other versions. Assuming platform price parity, Phasmophobia is expected to retail on the eShop for $19.99.
First Phasmophobia Nintendo Switch 2 Gameplay Screenshots
No gameplay footage was shown during The Game Awards 2025, but Kinetic later released the first batch of Phasmophobia Switch 2 screenshots. The three images suggest that the co-op horror title will not require a major graphical downgrade to run on Nintendo’s hybrid console. While performance details remain unconfirmed, Phasmophobia‘s current console performance is an encouraging sign for the Switch 2; even the Xbox Series S runs the game at 60 frames per second and 1080p resolution. Although the Switch 2 is technically less powerful than the Series S, it has so far largely managed to match Microsoft’s budget console in practical performance by supporting certain software solutions like AI upscaling more efficiently. As such, the Series S version may offer a reasonable benchmark for what to expect from the Switch 2 release.
Phasmophobia May Leave Early Access by the Time it Reaches Switch 2
Separately, Kinetic confirmed that work on the 1.0 version of Phasmophobia is still ongoing. In August 2025, the Southampton-based developer said it was aiming for a full release sometime in 2026. With both the 1.0 launch and the Switch 2 release still vaguely dated, it’s unclear which will arrive first, assuming they don’t materialize simultaneously. Kinetic CEO Daniel Knight said the team is excited for Switch 2 owners to experience “the wealth of content we’ve added throughout 2025,” suggesting that whenever the upcoming port launches, it will be content-complete and in line with other platforms. With 2026 just weeks away, Phasmophobia currently appears more likely to launch in the second half of the year.

The confirmation of a new version of Phasmophobia being in development wasn’t the only piece of Switch 2 news from The Game Awards 2025. The December 11 event also featured several other related announcements, including Microsoft-owned Compulsion Games revealing that its 2025 Southern Gothic action-adventure South of Midnight will launch on Nintendo’s latest console and the PS5 in spring 2026. Japanese developer Shapefarm announced the Switch 2-exclusive co-op sci-fi puzzle adventure Orbitals, while Capcom confirmed that its long-time-coming futuristic action-adventure Pragmata and survival horror title Resident Evil Requiem are also coming to the hybrid device.
