Minecraft Player Recreates Their University Campus in the Game
A talented Minecraft player has recreated their entire university campus in the game, with staggering attention to detail. The player has used commands to make their Minecraft university campus fully functional, with the whole project taking a massive 700 hours in total.
Over the years, Minecraft has consistently shown that it has one of the most creative and dedicated communities of any game. It makes a lot of sense – creativity is at the center of Minecraft‘s gameplay loop, so it would almost be strange if players weren’t always putting together unique and interesting builds and showing them off to others online. This creativity can manifest itself in different ways. Some players dedicate huge chunks of time to massive projects, while others get creative with command blocks and really start to think outside the box. There was even one gamer who recreated all of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s Valentine in Minecraft, crossing over two of their favorite franchises to create something fresh and unique. Even after all these years, it seems that Minecraft creations are only getting more impressive, which, considering the remarkable number of amazing builds, is quite the feat.
Minecraft’s Copper Golem is the Best Kind of Broken Promise
Minecraft’s Copper Age content drop finally added the Copper Golem, which is completely different from what it once was, and that’s okay.
Minecraft Player Brings Entire University Campus to Life
Over on Reddit, user Current-Wear5405 shared their incredible recreation of their university campus – a full-scale remake of Korea University in Seoul, South Korea. This massive Minecraft build even brings all the campus interiors to life, complete with functioning elevators that have been created with commands. There’s also a controllable drone to explore the campus, again using the commands feature. The attention to detail on display here is incredibly impressive, but it doesn’t stop there. Current-Wear5405 has even used GIS data to create a simplified version of the surrounding city, spanning an area they estimate at around 6000×6000 blocks. As one user pointed out in the thread, this makes wide shots of the build look “like an expensive lego set.” The only thing it doesn’t have at the moment is the dorms, but the creator said in the thread that “I’ll add them someday.”
According to Current-Wear5405, this recreation of Korea University took around 700 hours to create. Users in the thread were pretty surprised by the figure, feeling it was on the low side considering how much they’d manage to create in that time. One even joked that they have more time than that in Minecraft and “still live in a hole.” The project is ambitious enough that it’d make even expert Minecraft builders wince at the thought, which is why the progress made here is so impressive. There was some suggestion that Current-Wear5405 should actually approach the university to show off the project, but the creator hasn’t responded to whether they’re planning to do this at this point. The user was even kind enough to share the download link to the university recreation on PlanetMinecraft, so those who want to try it for themselves can do so there. The world is around 1GB in total, and is compatible with Java Edition 1.21.10+.
It’s clear that Minecraft and its community isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Even now, Mojang continues to innovate with fresh content for the game. Just recently, it released the Mounts of Mayhem Minecraft update, which added tons of new stuff to Bedrock and Java. It feels as though the developer’s change in approach in recent times has paid dividends, with the focus now on more frequent content drops as opposed to the one major update per year it was doing previously. More tools for players to get creative with can only be a good thing, and will serve Minecraft‘s longevity well in the future.
