World of Warcraft Confirms Fan-Favorite In-Development Housing Features

By newsgame

World of Warcraft has officially confirmed that several exciting new features will eventually make their way to its Housing system, including co-ownership, build imports and exports, and the ability to place pets and mounts around their homes. While some of these features might still be a long way off, others will arrive in World of Warcraft much sooner than players might expect.

From the moment Housing hit early access in World of Warcraft Patch 11.2.7, it quickly became one of the most popular features in the game. Boasting exceptional customization, tons of quality-of-life features, and an easy-to-use interface, World of Warcraft’s Housing system has been lauded as one of the best in MMO history.

WoW Confirms Fan-Favorite In-Development Housing Features

WoW Housing officially leaves early access soon, meaning even more features will arrive in the system as well. The full launch arrives with the World of Warcraft: Midnight Pre-Expansion Update on January 20, and will bring several major improvements to Housing, including Neighborhood Endeavors, Night Elf and Blood Elf exteriors, an expanded Renown level cap, medium-sized houses, and visible plot borders while in Edit Mode.

However, World of Warcraft has also revealed several features that are currently in development for Housing. During an interview with PC Gamer, WoW confirmed guild halls, housing co-ownership, exterior rooms inside houses, and bad luck protection for decor drops in raids were all being worked on, and will arrive hopefully not long after the release of Midnight.

Blizzard also identified several features that are in the early stages of development, but that would likely arrive a little later in Midnight‘s development cycle. Further increases to exterior decor limits, exterior lighting, decor to mimic snow and other biomes, Housing build imports and exports, and interactive objects with both flavor and function in World of Warcraft are also on the docket. What’s more, collected mounts and pets will eventually be able to wander one’s home.

WoW game director Ion Hazzikostas recognized that players also want Hunter pets and alt characters to wander their houses, but there are logistical problems that could make doing so more difficult.

There are other features World of Warcraft is discussing that may arrive later, but not in the immediate future. Expanded controls for neighborhood leaders, such as guild Housing permissions, are a possibility if there is a player desire for such things. Likewise, basements are a possibility if Blizzard can figure out the technical issues, as are player-controlled event venues, like a communal theater stage or somewhere to throw weddings in World of Warcraft. Lastly, there are plans to eventually add Housing plots, either by expanding Founder’s Point and Razorwind Shores, adding new areas, or both.

The Future of Housing in World of Warcraft

Regardless, Housing is a new pillar of WoW, and players can expect it to continue to receive support for the rest of the game’s lifespan. World of Warcraft vice president and executive producer Holly Longdale confirmed players would be getting a Housing-specific roadmap soon as well, which should spell out when they can expect different features to arrive over the next year.

Beyond that, players can expect virtually every single World of Warcraft content update from now on to include some Housing features. Each of these patches will likely add new World of Warcraft Housing decor, 5-10 Renown levels for Housing, and more. World of Warcraft’s Housing system is only just getting started, and it sounds like fans will have plenty to look forward to soon.
