How To Level Up Fast In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Grinding out levels is a part of every RPG, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is no different. Here is how players can level up the quickest.

Updated on December 15, 2025, by Nahda Nabiilah: Mimes are special enemies scattered around the areas in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. All of them have the same attacks and will reward players with different cosmetics for the characters. While cosmetics don’t buff or help Expeditioners complete the game any easier, they are a nice touch if one likes to change a character’s appearance.

All Mime Locations In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

There are over 15 different Mime encounters found throughout Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and a good portion of them can be discovered relatively easily during the main story. In fact, one can be found as early as the game’s prologue. Meanwhile, the remaining Mimes are scattered in various spots around the world or inside optional areas.

Luckily, Mimes stand out quite a bit with their striped outfits, and you can even hear their notably distorted voices when in proximity to them. Some of the Mimes won’t be inherently hostile and charge the player upon sight, and in fact, some prefer to hide until they’re found. However, others will attempt to sneak up on you, so be mindful when trying to land that First Strike bonus or prepare otherwise.

If you manage to find and defeat the Mime in Lumiere during the game’s prologue, you’ll receive the ‘A Peculiar Encounter’ trophy/achievement for your efforts. Sadly, there’s no trophy/achievement for finding and defeating all the Mimes in the game, but you should still seek out as many of them as possible, as they each have a unique reward for doing so.

Below is a list of all Mime encounters by their locations and the rewards they provide upon defeat.

How To Reach All The Mimes In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Mime #1 Location – Lumiere (prologue)

Go to the docks where the Gommage takes place and turn right until you see a stage with performers. Look to the right of that, and the Mime will be standing in a corner.

Mime #2 Location – Spring Meadows

Take the left path from the Grand Meadow Expedition Flag and grapple across a cliff gap when prompted. The Mime will be waiting on the other side in the center of a stone platform.

Mime #3 Location – Flying Waters

From the Coral Cave Expedition Flag, proceed ahead and keep going until you go through a foggy narrow passage. Once you are near a kelp forest, turn right to find a hidden path that leads to a cliffside with climbing grips. Climb up it, and the Mime will be waiting in the area above.

Mime #4 Location – Ancient Sanctuary

From the Sanctuary Maze Flag, head right and crawl through a small opening. Turn left to arrive at an open area with a collapsed wooden structure in the middle. The Mime will be standing on an elevated path in the back.

Mime #5 Location – Esquie’s Nest

From the entrance of Esquie’s Nest, head down to the right, which will bring you to a pond area. The Mime will be standing at the very back of the area.

Mime #6 Location – Continent

This encounter includes two Mimes that are facing each other in an area covered in red trees. Use Esquie’s swimming or flying ability to reach this red island northwest of Old Lumiere. You can also find a Lost Gestral there, so check thoroughly.

Mime #7 Location – Frozen Hearts

From the Iced Heart Expedition Flag, you need to make your way upward along a sequence of train cars as you would toward the main objective for this area. However, before you reach that objective, go left instead of right to find both a Gestral Merchant and the Mime hiding discreetly behind a column.

All Merchant Locations In Clair Obscur Expedition 33

Merchants serve as some of the best sources of items in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, so here is where to find them all.

Mime #8 Location – Yellow Harvest

Start at the Harvester’s Hollow Expedition Flag and head right until you find a crawlspace that leads into a mountain area. The Mime will be standing in a field.

Mime #9 Location – Sunless Cliffs

Start at the Chroma Portal Expedition Flag and go through the portal. You’ll be prompted to choose one party member to face this Mime, so choose wisely. You can face it repeatedly to obtain the same haircut reward for everyone.

Mime #10 Location – The Reacher

Start at the Ladder Area Expedition Flag and then head across the bridge until you find a rope leading down on the left. The Mime will be waiting at the bottom.

Mime #11 Location – Sirene

After you progress far enough along the main path to where one of the moving platforms transports you through a narrow tunnel to an underground area, follow the grapple points and run past a balcony to find this Mime tucked in the dark around a corner. If you missed it while completing the main quest, start from the Sewing Atelier Expedition Flag and turn right to find the mime to the right.

Mime #12 Location – The Monolith

Start at the Tainted Cliffs Expedition Flag and follow the main path straight, ignoring the forks that split to the right. Once you see a structure resembling a fireplace, look for a narrow passage to the left with a rope that leads down. Take the rope, and it’ll send you what feels like miles down into a massive room where the Mime will be waiting and flanked by a Clair and an Obscur enemy.

Mime #13 Location – Flying Manor

Use the lift behind the Central Plaza Flag and then turn left to use the rope to go down. Proceed forward and go right to use another rope to go up and stumble upon a Mime.

Mime #14 Location – Visages

From the Joy Vale Expedition Flag, stick to the left side and go up the slope to fight the Mime.

Mime #15 Location – Old Lumiere

Fast travel to the Right Street Flag and proceed ahead until an NPC appears. From here, turn right and run past the enemies to eventually find some wall anchors. Use them to go up and defeat the Mime.

Mime #16 Location – Verso’s Drafts

Head to the Candy Land Flag and climb up using the wall anchors. Keep going left to find the Mime.

Tips For Beating Mime Bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Unique enemies like these Mimes can seem intimidating at first glance (especially compared to peskier ones like the Petank enemies) but they’re surprisingly predictable and easy to overcome once you know their gimmick.

Even if you land a First Strike on a Mime, they will always start the battle by “hammering” a protective barrier in front of themselves. This gives them several shields (as seen above) for you to bust through until they can finally take damage. As with any other enemy that does this, it’s best to use your Free Aim shots and/or Pictos that grant your party members extra attacks per turn. Maelle’s ‘Breaking Rules’ skill is also incredibly helpful for making short work of an enemy’s shields, once you unlock it.

Beyond the shields, Mimes boast a high defense stat that will make the battle drag for a long time if you don’t undermine it. To do that, you need to fill the Mime’s Break Meter (the yellow gauge under its health bar) with effective attacks. Fire-based attacks that inflict Burn stacks are especially helpful here. As it fills, you’ll notice glowing cracks start to appear on the Mime’s body.

Meanwhile, for their offensive abilities, all Mimes in the game only have two single-target attacks. One is their melee attack, which features two hand slaps followed by a headbutt. The other attack has them use a hammer to perform five or so hits on a party member. This keeps them super predictable and easy to dodge. However, keep in mind that certain Mime encounters function a little differently, such as the one at The Monolith which sees the Mime flanked by two other strong enemies (seen below).

clair-obscur-expedition-33-monolith-mime

Once the gauge is full (you’ll know it is when it’s flashing), you need to use a skill with the ability to Break an enemy. Do so, and the Mime will become temporarily stunned, and its defense will lower significantly for the rest of the battle. At that point, you can use your most powerful attacks to melt the rest of its health and defeat it.

Rewards for beating Mimes often include cosmetic unlocks for your party, namely outfits and haircuts, so make sure not to miss any during your travels across The Continent.
