A Big New Palworld Update is Coming on December 17
Pocketpair’s Palworld, the quirky survival game that has often been described as Pokemon with guns, is set to get a major update on Wednesday, December 17. Palworld was first released in early access last year and became an overnight success. While the game had the usual jank and performance issues that one expects from an early access game, Palworld still managed to attract millions of players across Xbox and Steam. Roughly nine months after its debut on Xbox and PC, Palworld made the jump to PS5, expanding its horizons to a brand-new group of players.
Palworld‘s longevity can be credited to its regular updates, some of which are focused on bug fixes and addressing lingering issues with the games, and others that are more substantial. Roughly six months after its early access launch, Palworld added a brand-new island in the form of Sakurajima, which came with more Pals to collect and other new mechanics. Then last December, Feybreak Island was released to the masses, giving dedicated Palworld players more reason to stick with the game as well as drawing lapsed fans back into the fold.
Palworld Leaving Early Access in 2026 With a ‘Massive Amount of Content’
Palworld reveals it’s leaving Early Access in 2026, with even more new content on the way.
Palworld Home Sweet Home Update Release Date
The next major Palworld update that stands a shot at not only keeping longstanding fans engaged but will potentially bring new and returning players back is coming on December 17. On that day, Palworld will release its big Home Sweet Home update, which also includes a crossover with fellow early access game Ultrakill. The Ultrakill collab will allow players to explore Palworld as V1 and V2 from that game, and even utilize some of their moves. For example, Ultrakill‘s signature “coin shooting” attack will be coming to Palworld as part of the Home Sweet Home update on December 17.
The Ultrakill collab in Palworld should make for an interesting crossover, but it’s not the only thing coming in the December 17 update. That same day, Palworld players can look forward to brand-new base customization features. Full details of what to expect from base customization in Palworld have yet to be revealed, but based on the Home Sweet Home trailer, we do know that the game will at least let players paint their buildings.
Ultrakill isn’t the first Palworld collab. The game has also previously enjoyed crossovers with Once Human and Terraria.
Palworld’s 1.0 Release is Coming in 2026
Palworld fans should mark their calendars for the Home Sweet Home update on December 17, but there is another date they may want to circle on their calendars as well. While unconfirmed at the time of this writing, it’s definitely possible that Palworld will show up at The Game Awards on December 11. Palworld has an established history with The Game Awards, and so it would make sense for this year’s event to showcase not only the Home Sweet Home update, but also the game’s 1.0 plans.
The Palworld Home Sweet Home update trailer concludes by teasing some kind of giant creature and promising that the game’s 1.0 release is coming in 2026. What exactly Pocketpair has planned for the Palworld 1.0 release remains to be seen, but it will definitely be exciting to see what’s in store. Whether that reveal happens on December 11 at The Game Awards or later on is up for debate.
If Palworld sticks the landing with its 1.0 release, it could potentially enjoy a resurgence. The game’s momentum was somewhat derailed by the Nintendo monster catching patents and other controversies, but otherwise Palworld has been a major success. Time will tell if Palworld can enjoy another burst in popularity when it finally releases its 1.0 version, but it will be interesting to see what happens regardless.
