By newsgame

Steam gamers looking for the chance to try out something new without shelling out for the latest AAA title are in luck. Over the last few days, seven new free games have been added to Steam’s “New & Featured” section, giving players the opportunity to try out some interesting titles without any financial cost involved.

At the moment, Steam is something of a hub for excellent free titles. Indie developers are using the platform as a way to showcase their talents, often allowing gamers to play what they’ve been working on for free. There are tons of free Steam games launching on a daily basis, meaning there’s always something fresh for anyone who doesn’t want to spend a bunch of money on their account. Naturally, gamers won’t like everything they play, but it’s fine. After all, they’ve not spent anything to try them out, so all they can lose is time.

The latest list of free Steam games released over the last few days include titles from a variety of genres, such as psychedelic walking simulator LAVALAMP, 6-player co-op horde game Rogue Masters, space station management simulator Space Station: Beyond, fantasy MMORPG Dreadmyst, first-person platformer Run Coffee Run, psychological horror title Everyday Devil, and relaxing puzzle game 100 Cats Lost In England Find & Color. All seven have been featured in the “New & Trending” section of Steam’s recent free game selection.

Delving a little deeper into each title, LAVALAMP is described by its developer as a “3D first-person walking simulator with a side of exploration/interaction with the environment.” Its highlight is its awesome visual aesthetic, which is bright and colorful, a feast for the eyes. Next up is Rogue Masters, a co-op horde game “with souls-like combat and extensive character customization,” described by one user review as “Killing Floor meets Dark Souls.” As far as free Steam games to play with friends go, it’s hard to look past this.

Then there’s Space Station: Beyond, which sees players take on numerous roles on a space station to “try to survive either maintaining or attacking a space station while everything that can go wrong has already gone wrong.” It also has a particularly interesting pixel art style, making it well worth a look. Dreadmyst is another recently released free Steam game, a free fantasy MMORPG featuring character customization, dungeons, and numerous classes to choose from. Best of all, the game claims there are “no plans to introduce paid content or monetization” in the future.

Run Coffee Run is the fifth game on the free Steam game list, where players must take part in first-person platforming, collecting coffee to stay awake long enough to reach the next objective. It’s a novel concept combined with an interesting black-and-white aesthetic, currently maintaining “Postive” Steam reviews at the time of writing. Everyday Devil is number six here, offering a shorter, more linear and story-focused experience that should only take around an hour to complete. Finally, there’s 100 Cats Lost In England Find & Color, which is great for gamers who just want to kick back and relax with no pressure. Players find the hidden cats in each illustration, and color it in afterwards. Fun, simple, relaxing, and best of all, free.

The latest free Steam game list is a great example of the variety of experiences players can have if they go looking for them. It’s easy to forget how many great indie games are out there from talented developers. At the time of writing, Steam does not have any free-to-keep promotions ongoing for titles that are usually paid, but the platform has given away plenty of games lately, so gamers should keep an eye out.
