How to Leave Sects in Where Winds Meet

By newsgame

Whether it is because you do not enjoy the playstyle or because you want to explore other options, leaving a Sect in Where Winds Meet is a core part of the gameplay experience, especially during the early game.

Choosing a Sect is a major decision, but one that is, luckily, reversible. Players can freely experience the gameplay style and culture of all the Sects in Where Winds Meet without being tied down to a single one permanently. Here’s how the process works.

Here’s how you can leave a Sect you’ve joined in Where Winds Meet:

  • Open the start menu and select “Sects.”
  • Click on “Betray Master” in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  • Select “Confirm” when prompted.

To complete the process, you will need to complete a quest in order to completely sever all connections with the Sect. Typically, this takes the form of a Severance Trial (more details below), with the sole exception of the Nine Mortal Ways Sect. Here are the details:

You will immediately be kicked out of the Sect and will lose all the privileges associated with being a member of that Sect. Your Sect Reputation, Sect Status, and Rank, as well as access to the Sect Shop, will be revoked. However, any items, cosmetics, or other goodies you purchased via the Sect Shop will be retained. In addition, the weapon you are offered upon joining a Sect will also remain unlocked.

What Are Severance Trials in Where Winds Meet?

Severance Trials are a special version of Perception Forest events in which players who leave their Sects are forced to participate. In this mode, Severance Trial-goers have a special bounty on their head and any player who defeats them earns extra rewards.

In addition, participants cannot leave the Trial until either they win or they die in the attempt. Using retreat points is disabled. Severance Trials do not require the participants to win in order to complete the challenge. To complete the Severance Trial, all players have to do is stay in that match until it is concluded.

You do not need to wait for a Severance Trial to join another Sect.

How to Start Severance Trials

Severance Trials are triggered automatically, and it is not within the power of a player to decide when they want to participate in one. After a player leaves a Sect and a Severance Trial is required, the game will start looking for active Perception Forest events to put you into.

Once an appropriate match becomes available, you will automatically be pulled into it without warning. It does not matter if you are in Solo mode or Co-op mode; the game will forcefully pull you out into the match. Whether you are in the middle of a quest, a boss fight, or simply idling, a Severance Trial takes priority over everything.

It can take anywhere between one hour to two days for a Severance Trial to start, since it is entirely dependent on how many players are actively playing Perception Forest matches and how many slots are available as a result.

Can You Rejoin Sects After Leaving in Where Winds Meet?

rejoin sects where winds meet

Yes, you can. After leaving a Sect, you can rejoin after 24 hours (real time) have passed. However, when you re-enter the Sect, your previous progress, such as reputation, merits, and status, will not carry over. You will have to start over as a Novice Disciple with no reputation and climb up from the bottom.

Moreover, after you rejoin a Sect, you will not be able to leave again for a period of 6 days. This is a measure put in place to prevent frequent Sect hopping among players, and there is no workaround.
