Say Hello to Greedfall 2: The Dying World’s Companions
After being in early access since September 2024, Greedfall 2: The Dying World will finally release in 1.0 on March 12, 2026. The game has come a long way since its EA launch, but we still have to wait and see just how well developer Spiders handled Greedfall 2’s greatest criticisms, such as its general lack of polish and controversial changes to the first game’s combat system.
One thing that many who have played Greedfall 2 seem to agree on, though, is that its world and characters have a good deal of promise. Inspired by the Age of Exploration—a period of European history that saw, among other things, mass colonization and the “discovery” of the Americas—Greedfall 2’s setting is quite unique for an epic fantasy RPG. The game’s blend of high-fantasy world-building and real-world historical inspiration make for some interesting scenarios, and equally interesting character dynamics, which promise to be on full display via Greedfall 2’s cast of companions.
Nilan, the Friend
A childhood friend of Greedfall 2 protagonist Vrider Gerr, Nilan has something of a stubborn and isolationist disposition. He is generally hostile to outsiders, tending to blame every foreigner on Teer Fradee for the ills that have befallen its people. Like the protagonist, Nilan is on the road to becoming a doneigad, although he believes that Teer Fradee’s sacred wisdom ought to be kept away from outsiders.

Nilan is a ranged specialist, starting the game with a bow and arrow as his primary armament. Due to his deep spiritualism and connection to the land of Teer Fradee, he is also a competent magic user, able to imbue some of his shots with magic damage and use support spells on allies.
Fausta, the Spy
Fausta is a sly and mysterious party member that the player will meet within Greedfall 2’s first few hours. Banished from the magical and spiritual aristocratic society of Theleme for unclear reasons, she is acting as a spy in Olima at the time when the player first encounters her. Smooth, guarded, and strategic, Fausta is able to charm and manipulate those around her with a silver tongue and affable demeanor.
She’s a magic user, focusing primarily on ranged attacks used without implements like wands, staves, and the like. Considering Theleme’s penchant for light magic and studious faithfulness, this is hardly a surprise.
Sybille, the Politician
Vriden Gerr meets Fausta while locked up in an Olima prison, and Sybille comes along to break them out. As part of the cunning and conspiratorial De Vespe family her entire identity and personality is defined by political prowess and clever scheming. Of course, this adds a layer of uncertainty to many of her engagements with the protagonist, with Sybille’s own voice actor stating that she is unpredictable. Much like Nilan, she is distrustful and skeptical as well—vital traits in her family business.
Armed with a pair of daggers, Sybille adopts something of a Rogue class archetype from the outset. Her combat style seems to be a reflection of her personality: stealthy, surreptitious, and always one step ahead.
Alvida, the Pure-Hearted Sailor
Alvida is a close friend of Sybille, whom she met during her adventures as a Naut: Greedfall 2’s Nauts Guild is home to the world’s most renowned sailors, who are the only ones with the knowledge required to sail the game’s oceans. As such, they are renowned for their bravery, wisdom, and well-guarded adventuring skills: strong traits in an RPG companion, that’s for sure. Despite her affiliation with Nauts and her adherence to some aspects of their culture, Alvida is staunchly anti-authority, and is ultimately guided by her own moral compass—this is what winds up aligning her with Vriden Gerr. She gets up close and personal in combat, fighting with a classic saber.
Ludwig, the Ex-Soldier
Like Greedfall 2’s other main characters, Ludwig lives by his own code. A soldier-turned-smuggler, he despises the rich and corrupt and has a strong sense of justice, even if his own moral code is a bit flexible. In fact, he seems to have a good bit of contempt for the concept of heroes and social acceptance in general, only caring about his main prerogative, which is the protection of the world’s poor and the ongoing resistance against the rich elite.
Although he has renounced his military life by the time Greedfall 2’s story begins, Ludwig’s martial training has been well-retained. Another melee fighter, he starts the game with a trusty hatchet, and is proficient with impact weapons.
Safia, the Wise Adventurer
The eldest of the Greedfall 2 companions, Safia is wise and wizened, often caught chastising more youthful characters for their lack of honor or consideration. But make no mistake, she’s no frivolous biddy: Safia is a seasoned explorer and cartographer, maintaining a staunch opposition to the imperialist powers of Greedfall 2’s world. This worldly experience and hardline value set make Safia one of the more intellectually and psychologically tough of the group.
Another ranged fighter, Safia favors firearms and joins the party brandishing a Rusty Rifle. She can also unlock support skills.
Till, the Noble Leader
Till is the Captain of the Coin Guard, a massive mercenary guild. Exceedingly loyal, protective, and honor-bound, he is a stalwart companion with a heart of gold. Indeed, though he projects a gruff demeanor, Till hides a sensitive side, and his intelligence and cunning cannot be overlooked either. He wields a two-handed sword, making him a strong Tank-type character.
