Time flows exactly how you think it does in Fallout 4, and while it’s normally a non-issue, you may need to be in certain in-game time windows if you want to make progress with certain quests (or if you just want to skip the days/nights away). Thankfully, like in Bethesda’s other RPGs, players can skip time in Fallout 4 whenever they want, provided they aren’t getting mauled or shot at, and that there’s an actual resting place nearby.
Waiting in Fallout 4 is a handy feature that lets players pass the in-game time. Doing it is fairly easy, but if you’re coming from a different Bethesda game, there’s one key difference you need to keep in mind.
Fallout 4: What’s the Point of No Return for Each Faction?
Those hoping to see every Fallout 4 ending in a single playthrough will need to know the point of no return for each of the game’s factions.
How to Wait in Fallout 4
In order to skip or pass the time in Fallout 4, you need to find some place to sit on, whether it’s a chair or anything chair-like. Once you find some place to sit down, a prompt will appear on your screen. Press that, and you’ll be able to select how many hours you can skip in-game.
Alternatively, you can also find and use beds. This is much better than just sitting somewhere, because resting on a bed will give you the Well-Rested perk.
Sleeping on a bed will also restore your health, making it a great way to heal up without using any valuable items. Interestingly, you won’t take damage from Hunger/Thirst when sleeping in Survival mode.
How to Get The Well-Rested Perk in Fallout 4
You can get the Well-Rested buff by sleeping on any bed for at least one hour. This will increase the XP you gain from any source by 10%, and it’ll last for eight in-game hours. However, there are some important things you need to know about how this works:
- You can only get the Well-Rested perk by sleeping on beds that you own or have rented (this includes sleeping bags).
-
If you’re playing on Survival mode, you need to sleep for at least seven hours on an owned/rented bed. You can’t use sleeping bags to get the Well-Rested perk because of the limit on how long you can sleep on them.
- Well-Rested will also give you a bonus to your AGI and END when playing on Survival mode.
- If you have a romantic relationship with an FO4 companion, you can sleep on the same bed as them. This will turn Well-Rested into Lover’s Embrace, which will increase the XP bonus to 15%.
