“Never Say Never” The Simpsons Showrunner Comments on Hit and Run

By newsgame

The Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman has commented on the possibility of more Hit and Run in the future. The original Simpsons: Hit and Run has become something of a cult classic over the years, and fans have been clamoring for more of the game for well over two decades now, to no avail.

When it was released in 2003, The Simpsons: Hit and Run was met with immediate comparisons to classic Grand Theft Auto games such as GTA 3 and Vice City. It took the formula from Rockstar’s open-world games and applied it to the familiar city of Springfield, with The Simpsons‘ typical sense of humor. Despite its cult popularity, the concept has never been revisited, even in an era when remasters of classic games are common. For years, it has been among the most-wanted video game remasters, although there has been no signal it’s actually going to happen.

It’s Been 11 Months, But Simpsons Fans Are Still in Mourning

Simpsons fans are still upset over something that happened 11 months ago, and it doesn’t seem like they will get over it any time soon.

The Simpsons Showrunner Says ‘Never Say Never’ to More Hit and Run

In a recent interview with People, The Simpsons showrunner and Hit and Run co-writer Matt Selman gave his thoughts on the potential for the hit game to return in some capacity in the future. “Hit and Run is so interesting. I’m a thousand years old, and when I was in my mid to late 20s, I helped write Hit & Run. I had no idea it would become a cult game, a cult success. Of all the games, the thousands of Simpsons games… that one…”

“Nothing is set in stone. But my quote about Hit and Run would be, ‘Never say never,'” Selman explained. “Because we know people love it. We know they want it, so that’s good. If we know people want it, never say never.” In any context, it’s not clear whether Selman is discussing a potential Simpsons: Hit and Run remaster, or whether he’s actually talking about a sequel. Despite original developer Radical Entertainment recently making a comeback after 12 years, it doesn’t seem as though anything is in the works at the moment. Still, quotes like this remain good news for those who want to see more Simpsons: Hit and Run in the future.

This isn’t the first time that Matt Selman has commented on the possibility of The Simpsons: Hit and Run returning. Back in 2021, the showrunner claimed that he would love to see a remastered version of the 2003 title, and it appears that sentiment remains intact. At the time, Selman also said that there were some corporate details that could prevent anything from happening with the series. Whether this is still the case in 2026 is unclear.

Although there hasn’t been anything concrete about a return of The Simpsons: Hit and Run, fans have taken matters into their own hands over the years. There have been various fan-made remakes of the game, all of which showcase the potential of an official return. It has been nearly 23 years since the original launched, and the fact that fan demand has stood the test of time is a testament to how desperate gamers are to see more of The Simpsons: Hit and Run.
