How to Craft Items in Monster Hunter Stories 3
Combining items in Monster Hunter Stories 3 is essential if you want to get the most potent of consumable items. You can do this by opening the Menu screen (press Esc/Start), then navigate to the Combine tab, which is the second one to the right.
In this tab, you’ll be able to see all the items you can combine into stronger ones, though there are more things to know about here that MH Stories 3 players might not be immediately familiar with.
Combining Items in MH Stories 3
In the Combine tab, you’ll see every recipe you know as well as all the ingredients that each recipe requires (including the total number of ingredients you currently have on hand). You can combine as many things as you want at any given time, so long as you’re not in combat, and you have the raw materials needed to craft them.
The ability to combine items in Monster Hunter Stories 3 is locked by default. To unlock it, you need to progress through the story first. Item combination becomes available relatively early into Act 1, so until then, you’ll have to make do with what you got. Otherwise, consider purchasing consumables instead of crafting them.
How to Unlock Combine Recipes in MH Stories 3
You can find more item recipes by visiting merchants, namely the Felyne trader (Merchant Melynx) who appears next to the camps you unlock in the wilds. Speak with the trader, then select the Exchange for Special Goods option in the menu that appears. In this new menu, you’ll find a wide range of stuff for sale, including item recipes, weapon skills, and even equipment schematics.
Every item sold by merchants can be purchased using Points, which you can earn by doing quests or defeating monsters. There are three different types of Points, and you’ll need the right ones in order to purchase specific items.
Some quests in Monster Hunter Stories 3 may also reward you with item crafting recipes. Make sure to pay attention to the rewards that each of them give so you don’t miss out on free stuff.
Best Recipes to Get First
You’ll start the game with only some basic recipes. If you want to improve your chances of winning fights, get the following as soon as you can:
- Demondrug (Mandragora + Might Seed): Boosts the target’s attack power. This can come in clutch for when you really need to break a monster part soon.
- Armorskin (Mandragora + Adamant Seed): Boosts the target’s defense. If you know you’re going to take damage, using Armorskin can save from a ton of punishment.
- Dash Juice (Immunizer + Dash Extract): Restores Stamina and grants Stamina Up. Perfect for starting fights, and even more so if you’re using Stamina-hungry weapons like Hammer and Longsword.
- Sleep/Paralysis Knife (Throwing Knife + Sleepyfish/Anesfreesia): Handy for preventing monsters for acting. By using knives, you won’t need to switch Monsties in order to inflict either of these statuses, allowing you to conserve and build up your Kinship Gauge charge efficiently.
