Protect/Destroy 3 Contract Guide in Marathon
After uploading the malware onto the UESC dropship and returning to Gantry, players will unlock the next step in the contract chain. Protect/Destroy 3 in Marathon includes two objectives that must both be completed during a single run.
The first task requires players to install the UV Protocol in the southwest section of Intersection, while the second objective involves tagging several marked locations across Dire Marsh. The walkthrough below explains exactly where to go and how to finish Protect/Destroy 3 so you can claim the associated rewards in Marathon.

How to Complete Protect/Destroy 3 in Marathon
Installing UV Protocol in Southwest Intersection
For the first objective, load into Dire Marsh and head toward Intersection, which is located on the western side of the map. Since combat is not required for this contract, bringing a Sponsored Kit is a safe option in case you get knocked out during the run.
Once you arrive at Intersection, head toward the southwest section, where you will find a small blue secure room. If you open the doors, you will notice the doorways are surrounded by laser tripwires, making it difficult to enter safely.
To disable the lasers, you need to use your weapon and destroy the power boxes connected to the system. There are five power boxes in total. Four are located outside the building, and one is inside. Their locations are:
- To the left of the southwestern door entrance
- Above and slightly left of the previous power box
- Next to the eastern door entrance
- High on the wall with two X marks painted below it
- Open the door and look up at the ceiling to find the final power box inside
Once all five are destroyed, the lasers will deactivate. You can then enter the room, go up the stairs, search the cabinet, and collect the UV Protocol to complete the first objective.
Tagging Marked Locations in Dire Marsh
The second objective is usually the more difficult one. Not only are the tagging spots not marked on the map, but the objective description provides no guidance. There are three main areas where the tagged locations are: Complex, Maintenance, and AI Uplink. Since Maintenance is closest to Intersection, it is usually the safest place to head next so that you can avoid enemy runners.
When you arrive at Maintenance, your HUD will highlight the tagging points if you get close enough to them. If you want to find them faster, check the following spots:
- Inside the small building northeast of Maintenance
- Near the Level 1 sign beside the ladder on the north side of Maintenance
- On the upper platforms outside, where two tagging points sit close together near the northern side of the area
Tagging all the required spots will complete the contract. After returning to Gantry in the main menu, you will receive the following rewards:
- Random Enhanced Equipment
- Faction Intel
- Random Material
- Patch Kit
- Shield Charge
