Everything Coming to Ghost of Yotei: Legends at Launch

By newsgame

Ghost of Yotei has made headlines recently as publisher Sony abandoned its PC-release strategy, essentially confirming that Ghost of Yotei would only be available on PS5 consoles in the future, but that’s not all going on with it. Ghost of Yotei‘s multiplayer Legends mode releases on March 10, with it likely dropping around 9 am PT/12 pm ET.

The upcoming addition is a pretty major moment for the game, well worth all the hype surrounding it. Ghost of Yotei‘s Legends mode is likely to perform on par with Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, which was highly popular and well-received as a free, high-quality multiplayer expansion to the main game. It offered a distinct, supernatural, and cooperative experience, and Ghost of Yotei: Legends is running it back.

Ghost of Yotei Review: A Vengeful Samurai Epic That Surpasses Its Predecessor

Ghost of Yotei is a monumental open world graphics powerhouse driven by intense combat and an enthralling revenge story.

On day one, anyone diving in will be able to play as four distinct classes in Ghost of Yotei: Legends. There are the Samurai, Archer, Mercenary, and Shinobi, who wield an Odachi, Spear, Dual Katana, and Ksuarigama, respectively. To be clear, each class specializes in its associated weapon, but players will be able to use any offering in the game. Players will want to spend some time with their chosen class, or among them if undecided, to narrow in on the best playstyle to challenge everything coming in the mode.

Ghost of Yotei: Legends Feature List

  • Co-Op up to 4 players
  • Four bosses at launch: supernatural versions of The Spider, Oni, Kitsune, and Snake
  • Each boss has its own faction of enemies
  • There are four difficulty levels, with higher difficulties giving more loot and experience (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum)
  • Online progression & XP system tied to difficulty and missions
  • Enhanced multiplayer lobby with practice areas and mini‑activities while waiting
  • The first Ghost of Yotei raid launches in April, with fans expecting it to be comparable to Ghost of Tsushima: Legends‘ raids.
  • When the Raid launches, players will face off against the Dragon and Lord Saito. Raids will require 4 players.

As far as core gameplay goes, players can enjoy narrated story missions that end in an Incursion, or they can complete Survival mode. The latter sees up to four players team up against waves of increasingly tough enemies across four distinct maps in Ghost of Yotei: Legends. Players must fight for control of various areas, and holding a territory will yield a blessing (buffs/boosts). If enemies retake an area, players can suffer a curse that weakens them. Each map has different Blessings and Curses.

Incursions are unlocked by completing three story missions, and they are large-scale, four-player challenge missions. Each Incursion is a stronghold assault against one of the Yotei Six (minus the Dragon and Lord Saito), and it ends in a boss fight against a giant, supernatural version of The Spider, Oni, Kitsune, or Snake.

More Ghost of Yotei: Legends is on the Horizon

Fans already know that the raids will launch in April, and that’s a pretty clear indication that Sony and Sucker Punch want to support this multiplayer game mode for Ghost of Yotei. Fans can likely expect it to receive as much support as Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, which received about a year and a half of support. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends was released in October 2020 and received support through the final patch in April 2022, with these patches including performance improvements, bug fixes, and, most importantly, free major content like new modes and more.

Ultimately, it remains to be seen how well this Legends update performs, but it’s worth noting that Ghost of Yotei was outselling Ghost of Tsushima per Sony’s last update. Perhaps that means the Legends community will already have strong investment following its launch, but for now, fans just have to wait and see.
