Drifting Through Dreams Quest Guide in Where Winds Meet

To unlock the Hexi region in Where Winds Meet, you need to start the Drifting Through Dreams questline in the Qinghe region. Then, travel to Bamboo Abode and continue moving till you reach the shoreline northeast of the Bamboo Retreat Boundary Stone. There, you’ll find a mysterious bag on the ground near the water. Interacting with this bag begins the quest that leads directly into the Hexi expansion storyline in Where Winds Meet.

Once you’re done interacting with the Veiled Lady and watching some story cutscenes, you’ll be transported through a dreamlike sequence that takes you to the Jade Gate Pass, the first region of Hexi.

How to Unlock Hexi Region in Where Winds Meet

Start the Drifting Through Dreams Quest

The Hexi expansion begins back in Qinghe, the very first region players explore in Where Winds Meet. Specifically, you’ll need to travel to the Bamboo Abode area.

From the Bamboo Retreat Boundary Stone, move northeast to the coastline. When you reach the bamboo groves near the shore, keep an eye out for a small bag, called the Vessel of Soul, lying on the ground. This bag is the trigger for the expansion questline. Interacting with it immediately starts the Drifting Through Dreams quest.

Investigate the Mural in Bamboo Abode

After picking up the bag, the quest marker will guide you to another location within Bamboo Abode. This time, you’ll be traveling slightly north into a wooded area.

Here, you will find a large mural painted on a wall. Interacting with the mural starts a small puzzle sequence. You’ll need to light a nearby candle positioned to the right of the mural. Once the candle is lit, you’ll be prompted to move into a wooden shed behind you.

Inside the shed, you’ll be given another prompt to light a second candle. Completing this step triggers a cutscene that introduces one of the quest’s most mysterious characters.

Meet the Veiled Lady

Once the cutscene ends, a mysterious figure known as the Veiled Lady. She’ll be sitting at a table inside the shed, casually playing Mahjong.

Talk to her to continue the quest. After a brief conversation, she will disappear and ask you to come back the following evening. If you don’t want to wait in real-time, simply change the in-game time.

When you return and relight the candle again, the Veiled Lady will reappear, this time sitting on the well outside. She will ask you to finish the mural you found earlier. Interact with the mural again to complete it, then talk to her once more.

Reach the Jade Gate Pass

After finishing the mural interaction, a cinematic scene begins where the Veiled Lady takes your hand and pulls you into a surreal sequence. Your character falls through water before they eventually wake up inside a quiet cabin. Investigate the painting inside the cabin to trigger another short cutscene.

Once you step outside the cabin, another cinematic plays. You’ll then receive prompts to board a nearby boat. Boarding the boat triggers the final cinematic that officially introduces the Hexi expansion.

From here, you can freely explore the desert region, unlock Boundary Stones for fast travel, find new bosses, and continue the Hexi storyline.
