How to Make a Habitat Darker in Pokopia

Jessica hails from Northern Ireland, and has written thousands of guides across sites such as Eurogamer, PCGamer, IGN, and PCGamesN. She also ventures into the lands of reviews, news, interviews, and features from time to time, but never strays too far from the guides shire. When Jessica’s not writing about games, she’s usually stressing over character builds in Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact, or on the hunt for a new survival horror to test the strength of her vocal chords. She asks that you kindly stop recommending gargantuan RPGs to her, as they will become her new personality, and there’s only so much unnecessary tatt that her shelves can hold. This logic somehow doesn’t stop her from trying every new gacha RPG going, but looking at her playtime on those tends to have the same effect… sometimes.

Increasing the Comfort Level of some fussy Pokemon who like darker habitats in Pokemon Pokopia requires a little more work than usual. Instead of just handing them an item or placing something down nearby, you need to actually build around a habitat in Pokopia, or move their habitat into a makeshift cave. This can be a little finicky, and there are some roadblocks that might trip you up (like a stray light source coming in from somewhere) so we’ve explained exactly how to make a habitat darker in Pokemon Pokopia below.

To make a habitat darker in Pokopia, you have to create or move a habitat in a shaded area. To do this, you’ll need to either make a cave by using the Rock Smash ability you get from Hitmonchan to get rid of blocks, or build blocks around a preexisting habitat to create a little house. In my experience, it’s easier to just make a quick cave by smashing down some rocks than it is building blocks around a habitat, but it depends on what the situation is.

For example, with Drilbur, it’s very quick and easy to use Rock Smash on the blocks just north of the veggie patch you created for them when unlocking Rototiller in Pokopia. However, if there aren’t any blocks nearby, then it makes sense to use your own and create a makeshift house for a Pokemon who prefers a darker habitat. Don’t add any windows, though, or light will sneak in.

Also, make sure there are no light sources near a dark habitat — like glowing mushrooms, campfires, or streetlights — as these add brightness and will ruin the lovely dark area you just created.

Ensure the habitat is completely covered in a shadow to make it dark enough to raise the Comfort Level of a Pokemon in Pokopia. If for some reason the Pokemon still isn’t satisfied even when the habitat is covered in shadow, double check for any light sources nearby, move the habitat even deeper into your makeshift cave, or build a wider area around the habitiat with your blocks.
