Progress is tracked per dog, not per meal. That means once you find a favorite food for a specific dog, that dog counts as one complete step towards the Doggie Canteen achievement. Feeding the same dog additional favorite foods will not increase your progress further. Because of this, it’s important to feed multiple dogs rather than just focusing on only one.
Both adoptable dogs and NPC dogs around the world count toward the achievement, so you can explore and interact with a variety of pets while hunting for their favorites.
You don’t always get an obvious visual signal when you feed the correct food. Instead, the confirmation appears through the dog’s affection response. Not every dog will love the same food, which is why testing multiple items is necessary. A safe option specifically designed for feeding dogs is the Universal Dog Food. Surprisingly, a lot of dogs enjoy it. Unlike many other recipes in the game, you can’t cook this recipe, but it can only be purchased.
