How to Refuel Trucks in Foxhole
As with pretty much anything in Foxhole, there are no instructions or tutorials on how to refuel trucks or other vehicles. Figuring this out will help players become an integral part of the logistics effort, delivering equipment and resources to the front lines in their trucks. As there are a few different ways to refuel in Foxhole, this guide will walk players through each possibility. They all work in the exact same way for both Colonials and Wardens.

Like everything else in Foxhole, fuel is produced, stored, and transported by real players.
Refueling With A Fuel Can In Foxhole
Refueling with a fuel can in Foxhole is the most common method, and in situations where a vehicle is stranded or away from a refueling center, it is the only way. After building a truck or pulling one out of storage, you should have enough fuel to park it out of the way or reach fuel.
Find a fuel can in a base or liquid container, and put it in your inventory. For trucks and other ground vehicles, this should be Diesel or Petrol.
- Click on the fuel can in your own backpack (Tab) to put it in the third slot.
- Press 3 to equip the fuel can.
- Hold LMB next to the vehicle.
While holding, it will say “Refueling: 40/100L“, for example.
When in the driver’s seat of any vehicle, the fuel level can be seen at the top left as a progress bar. It can also be seen in the vehicle’s inventory in the top right.
How To Switch Fuel Type & Remove Fuel From Vehicles In Foxhole
When using any of these methods, players may attempt to put petrol in a truck and receive a message saying “Target does not take petrol as fuel.“
Thankfully, this can be changed. Enter the vehicle’s inventory by pressing E, and then click the Change Fuel Icon at the bottom, which is two clockwise arrows in a fuel can. The old fuel will be siphoned out.
Vehicles running on petrol will have a stronger engine torque, meaning they are 10% faster and have better acceleration, but diesel is cheaper to produce.
This method can also be deployed when you want to remove fuel from a vehicle. For example, it’s good to do so before submitting a truck to a stockpile, saving fuel. At other times, there may be no fuel available, so you need to withdraw some from unused vehicles.
Refueling From Liquid Containers In Foxhole
To refuel from a liquid container, pull up next to one and get out of the vehicle. Open the vehicle’s inventory with E, and press the Refuel button in the top right. It is a plus icon inside a fuel can.
If the liquid container has the correct fuel, a pipe will spawn between the two, and the vehicle will be slowly refueled. To cancel, drive away.
Liquid containers can be recolored by players, and all being well, they should follow this pattern:
- Diesel: Yellow
- Petrol: Dark Blue/Looks Grey
- Heavy Oil: Red
- Enriched Oil: Green
- Water: Light Blue
- Oil: Brown
- Empty: Grey/White
You can open the liquid container’s inventory to check, and don’t expect this color pattern to always be followed.

Refueling From Fuel Tankers In Foxhole
Fuel tankers are vehicles with fuel tanks on their back. They won’t be used as regularly to refuel, especially for running logistics with a truck. They are more commonly used to escort tank convoys and keep them topped up, or they are used at airfields, as it’s easier to take the fuel to a plane than for the plane to taxi.
To use a fuel tanker, simply park next to one and follow the same steps as refueling from a liquid container. It’s essentially a liquid container on wheels.
