Battlefield 6 is only a few days away from dropping Season 2, and it hopefully proves exciting enough to bring forth some much-needed hype to the FPS. Last year, Battlefield 6 was a record-breaking launch for the franchise, but it’s also faced plenty of ups and downs since its strong opening weekend. Between hit detection issues, claims of not enough large-scale maps, controversial skins, RedSec complaints, and still no naval maps in sight, Battlefield 6 has left a lot of players frustrated.

Of course, there is still the chance for Battlefield 6 to bounce back. The military shooter has only been active for a few months now, but Battlefield 6 Season 2 is going to have to bring some strong content if players are going to remain invested (or come back to the shooter). And whether a player is waiting for the game to improve or they’re just ready to leave Battlefield 6 behind and invest in a different game, one free-to-play option could be the perfect placeholder. Delta Force has been out since 2024, and in that time it’s proven to be an incredibly strong FPS that could fill the void some Battlefield 6 players have been left with.

Battlefield 6‘s map sizes have been one of the main points of debate ever since the game launched. Leaked Battlefield 6 Season 2 maps could be teasing more variety, but there is already concern on Reddit and other social media platforms that they won’t bring anything truly new to the table. Granted, Battlefield 6 ultimately feels better when it comes to how the controls handle, but Delta Force is well ahead of the former when it comes to diverse maps. Delta Force Could Be the Answer That Frustrated Battlefield 6 Players Have Been Looking For

It may not be branded with the Battlefield name, but Delta Force feels incredibly close to the franchise where it counts. It’s not a perfect game by any means, but it solves a lot of issues that fans have had with Battlefield‘s newest entry. Not only does it have features that Battlefield 6 lacks, but it does them quite well.

As the FPS and Extraction Shooter Genres Compete, Delta Force Embraces Both Sides

Battlefield 6, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and ARC Raiders all came out within a month, and they demonstrated a fascinating shift in what gamers are looking for. Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 7 had strong sales, but ARC Raiders took the spotlight as one of the biggest games of 2025. It really put extraction shooters in the spotlight, and the game has garnered a better reputation since its launch than Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 7 have. ARC Raiders felt like the first game to showcase just how much potential extraction shooters have to be the next big thing and surpass FPS games. Battlefield 6‘s dwindling player count has several causes, and one of them may be boredom with the run-of-the-mill FPS formula. Delta Force has a leg up on the competition by not only featuring large-scale Battlefield-style matches, but it also has an extraction mode called Hazard Operations.

Whether one’s drawn to the Battlefield-inspired matches or is becoming more invested in extraction gameplay, Delta Force‘s game modes have the best of both worlds. Once Season 2 drops, it will be fascinating to see how Battlefield 6‘s update is received. Before its launch, the game felt like a promising return to the franchise’s roots. Granted, Battlefield 6 has its strong suits, but there is still a lot of room for improvement before it really feels like a true return to form. Season 2 is hopefully a step in the right direction, but only time will tell. Until then, Delta Force might turn out to be a pleasant surprise for Battlefield 6 players. Even better, it doesn’t cost a penny.
