Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 – Best Zombies Maps, Ranked
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has one of the most beloved Zombies modes in the franchise’s history, but how does every map rank to decide the best?
Step 1: Acquire the Wrath of the Ancients Bow
All Dragon Head Locations
The first priority is to grab the bow in Der Eisendrache. After spawning in, take a left through the locked door and then through the locked gate, where, at the end of the area, you will find a dragon head statue. You will need to kill a zombie at this dragon head statue to wake it up. Once it is awake, kill a zombie to see it flip, and then float into the dragon’s mouth. This needs to be repeated for a total of 7 kills, and then the dragon will return to stone and crumble.
You can find the next dragon head statue by going up the stairs and through the living quarters, where, upon taking a left, you will be able to activate the power in the armory. Continue through to the right, where you will enter through the courtyard and then to the church. The dragon’s head is just above the fireplace.
The final dragon statue is beneath the stairs into the undercroft by Speed Cola, located on the wall opposite the square altar. After you have fed all 3 dragon statues, head upstairs to the crypt and pick up the Wrath of the Ancients bow. All 4 players can grab this bow, so no Mystery Box is required.
Step 2: Upgrade the Elemental Bows (Or Just One for Solo)
How to Get All Elemental Bow Upgrades in Der Eisendrache
Crafting the bow and its upgrades in Black Ops 3’s Der Eisendrache is no simple task, but these easy-to-follow steps will ensure a bow for everyone.
Once you have obtained the Wrath of the Ancients, it’s time to upgrade it to one of four elemental bows. For solo players, you just need one elemental bow. If you’re playing in a Ranked Private Match, then you need one bow per player. Otherwise, you’ll need all 4. We recommend the Lightning Bow, and we’ll show the steps below. For the other bows, check out our guide above to get all 4 with ease:
How to Get the Lightning Bow
Head to the upper courtyard where the Death Ray trap is located, and shoot the weather vein with a charged shot of the bow. This will see an arrow burst from the wall, which can be interacted with to pick it up and begin the upgrade quest. Now, you’ll need to use a charged shot to ignite 3 pyres outside the map:
- The first pyre is found on the castle wall between the clock tower and the computer terminals to the right of the Death Ray.
- Another pyre is found in the distance, past the KRM-262 wall-buy near Double Tap and the spawn room.
- The last pyre requires the use of the teleporter in the Undercroft to reach the Rocket Platform. Look to the right, and you’ll see the pyre on the cliffside.
After igniting all 3, it’s time to return to the Undercroft and activate the anti-gravity in the room by standing on all 4 squares around the central altar. Once anti-gravity is activated, jump up and use wall-running to hit 5 glowing platforms with a wind symbol. If you hit the ground, you’ll need to start again, but you can use the anti-gravity jump to help you across the walls.
Now, there will be three electric urns around the map. These urns need to be charged with 5 zombie kills each. Once they’re charged, aim a charged shot of the bow at the urn to take an electrical charge, and shoot the pyres you previously lit. Here’s the location of each urn:
- The room above Double Tap, by the Crafting Table and L-CAR 9 wall-buy.
- Inside the Clock Tower, by the spiral stairs.
- Inside the Rocket Launch chamber, opposite the teleporter.
With all pyres now imbued with fire and lightning, return to the weathervane by the Death Ray, which should now also be on fire. Once you interact with the blue fog where you picked up the broken arrow, it will reforge itself. Now, pick it up and take it to the Undercroft, where you can place it into the open crate with the lightning symbols etched into it. Once you get 20 kills at this box, you will be able to pick up the Lightning Bow, but hold off for now.
Step 3: Shoot the Teleporter and Find 4 Wisps
All Wisp Locations in Der Eisendrache
With the Wrath of the Ancients bow, head to the teleporter in the Undercroft and shoot all the prongs above the teleporter until they’re glowing gold. Once done correctly, a strange sound will play, and you’ll now need to pick up the Lightning Bow (or any elemental bow) and run across the map to shoot 4 wisps.
You have 5 minutes to find all wisps, and you must use an uncharged shot, or else you’ll need to try again in the next round. There are 8 potential spawn locations for the wisps, but only 1 spawns at a time, and there are only 4 you need to get. We’ve listed all wisp locations below:
- On top of the clock in the church
- On an electrical device in the church, when facing the right wall
- Inside the clock tower, to the left of the bunk beds
- On a black telephone, up the stairs, and opposite the power switch
- On a globe, just before entering Samantha’s room
- To the left of the crafting table in the L-CAR 9 wall-buy room
- On the wheel of a car near Double Tap
- On a table opposite Quick Revive in the upper spawn room
Now, in the same round, you will need to use the Undercroft teleporter, which now has a purple light on the bottom. This will allow you to time travel, where you will want to pick up the Soul Cannister in the left corner, and the Fuses on a box on the right. Now, make a note of the 3 symbols that Dr. Groph enters into the safe from top to bottom.
Step 4: Build the Ragnarok DG-4
All Ragnarok DG-4 Parts in Der Eisendrache
After teleporting to the Rocket Launch area after your time travel shenanigans, a Panzersoldat will spawn. If this is your first Panzer, kill him by shooting the core on his chest or his helmet. With his death, he will explode and drop a glowing blue part for the Ragnarok DG-4.
For the next Ragnarok DG-4 part, remain in the Rocket Launch area. Once the Rocket Launch begins, head underneath the rocket to find a lever, which can be pulled. Now, run into the safety chamber and wait for the rocket test to end. When it does, interact with the console by the teleporter, which will see another glowing blue part of the DG-4s appear.
For the final DG-4 part, activate the Launch Pads that can be found in the Courtyard, Clock Tower, Spawn, L-CAR 9 room, and the Rocket Launch area. Now, use the Death Ray. Look in the sky, and you’ll see the floating blue part. You’ll need to use the Wundersphere launch pad so you can grab the part in mid-air. With all three parts acquired, head to any crafting bench (there’s one in the Undercroft and church) and build the Ragnarok DG-4.
Step 5: Solve Dr. Groph’s Safe Puzzle
After acquiring the Fuses from the time travel step, you will want to return to the Death Ray. Once you’re here, interact with the back panel of the Death Ray to place the Fuses you collected. Now, approach the Death Ray’s front switch and interact with it to change it to “Protect”.
Outside the Clock Tower, you’ll find a computer terminal with 4 small screens and 1 central screen. You will need to input the safe code shown by Dr. Groph during the time travel step. Once you’ve input the correct code, head back to the Undercroft in the teleporter room, and the safe will be open. Interact with the open safe to grab the Plugs and the keycard.
Step 6: Play Simon Says & Free Ultimis Dempsey’s Cryo Pod
With the contents of Dr. Groph’s safe acquired, head back to the Death Ray. On the opposite sides of the Death Ray area, you’ll find a pylon that’s missing a plug. You’ll need to interact with the one on the left and right to place the plug inside. After doing so, interact with the Death Ray’s panel to change it back to “Destroy”.
Now, return to the terminals by the clock tower and interact with the central panel. Each screen will now have a symbol that you have to memorize (we decided on Circle, Triangle, Lightning, Square). The central panel will flash a symbol, and you’ll need to interact with the smaller panel that has the same symbol. Repeat this until no more symbols flash, and then repeat the puzzle at the terminal found in the Rocket Launch area.
With both terminals activated, the pylons by the Death Ray should now be glowing white. Behind the Death Ray, a green button can be pressed, which will cause the pylons shoot a rocket, which will now crash into the Courtyard area. In the center of the Courtyard, there’s a Vril Device (golden rod) that can now be picked up.
Step 7: Find the 4 Wisps and Acquire the Keeper Stone
With the Golden Rod acquired, you’ll then hear the same monster growl that occurred during the wisp step. You’ll now need to run around the map and locate 4 wisps again and shoot each of them with the uncharged shot of the elemental bow. Doing so will allow you to teleport back in time to the Undercroft, where you can interact with the terminal on the right to unlock a crate with a Keeper Stone by the entrance to the left, which can be interacted with to pick it up.
With the Keeper Stone acquired, head to the outside area of Double Tap, where, underneath the lamppost on the stone wall, you’ll see an empty square. Interact with the square to place the Keeper Stone.
The next step will spawn infinite Hellhounds, so make sure you and your team are ready, as you will be required to kill zombies in key areas with specific elemental bows. For solo players, you can use the same elemental bow. For 2 players, you just need 2 bows, but 3 players require 3 bows, and 4 players require all bows.
Step 8: Place the Vril Device in the Crypt and Feed the Keeper More Souls
Once you’re ready, return to the Crypt area above the Undercroft, and you can now place the Vril Device into the empty socket at the base of the tomb. This will see a spectral Keeper spawn, and you’ll need to follow it. The Keeper will stop at a unique location, and a circle will appear. Stand in the circle to expand the radius, and use the elemental bow to kill zombies while you stand in the circle. The bow you need to use is indicated by the color around your screen.
Once enough souls have charged the Keeper, it will enter a new location. This step has a total of 4 areas, which will take around 4 or more rounds to complete. Just make sure you have the right elemental bow for each area.
With the 4th zone completed, the Keeper will become visible, and you can follow it to the Undercroft, where it will spawn the MPD in the center. At the base of the MPD, a Soul Cannister is missing, so interact with it to open the MPD and reveal the Corrupted Keeper now inside. At this point, you’ll want to prepare for the boss fight.
Step 9: Prepare for the Corrupted Keeper Boss Fight
For the Corrupted Keeper boss fight, we recommend the XM-53 Rocket Launcher. When Pack-a-Punched, this weapon can kill the Corrupted Keeper in just 1 or 2 rockets. The boss arena is also filled with Panzers and skeletons, so we recommend a Pack-a-Punch version of the Haymaker or Brecci Shotgun for fast-firing and hard-hitting damage. Lastly, bring Monkey Bombs, as these are a great distraction against zombies while you’re trying to fight Panzers and the boss.
For GobbleGums, Danger Closest is great for those running explosives. Idle Eyes is great for safety, and Head Drama (Ultra-Rare Mega) ensures that any bullet fired is a headshot, which is great for clearing the room of hostiles without aiming.
Step 10: Defeat the Corrupted Keeper
How to Beat the Der Eisendrache Boss Fight
Once you’re ready for the Der Eisendrache boss fight, head to the MPD at the Undercroft and stand on one of the four blue panels. Each member of your team must use the Ragnarok DG-4’s LT/L2 to activate the Anti-Gravity Trap so that you can all spawn into the boss arena.
For the boss fight itself, you just need to run around and avoid the skeletons and Keeper attacks until a lightning orb spawns in the center of the map. Once the lightning spawns, pull out your Ragnarok DG-4 and use LT to place it in the center. This will disrupt the Corrupted Keeper’s insta-kill attack and allow you to damage his glowing chest. If you fail to stop the lightning with your DG-4, hide behind a pillar, or lightning will surge through the arena and kill you instantly.
After dealing enough damage, the Keeper will teleport away, and you’ll earn a Max Ammo in the center of the room, along with a fight with Panzers to fill up your DG-4. The boss fight is simple, as you need to use the DG-4 on the lightning that spawns at the center of the map to open the DPS phase against the Corrupted Keeper, and repeat for 3 phases.
Step 11: Charge the Summoning Key and Nuke the Moon
With the Corrupted Keeper defeated, you’ll spawn back at the Undercroft. You’ll need to interact with the central panel on the MPD to place the Summoning Key, and then interact with it again to pick it back up. With the Summoning Key, return to the terminal screens at the clock tower and interact with them to place the Summoning Key. This begins an in-game event without zombies, and then a cutscene will play directly after.
After the cutscene, we recommend passing to the next round. Then, feel free to leave the match, quit the game, or get a game over, as the easter egg will have saved.
