Fortnite Is Giving Away a Free Skin, But There’s a Big Catch
Fortnite is offering up a new free, epic skin, but players trying to claim it may have some troubles ahead of them. The Freediver skin in Fortnite is only intended to be available through a collaborative promotion between Epic Games and a couple of UK-based mobile service providers, but fans are finding loopholes in the system.
While they don’t affect gameplay in any meaningful way, Fortnite offers a wide variety of skins as a way for players to customize their appearance, setting themselves apart from the crowd and giving a deeper sense of ownership and customization. While players can often find rare Fortnite skins in the game’s item shop, the game also offers some limited-availability skins, which tend to become highly sought-after items, as plenty of players enjoy making skin collecting a hobby.

Fortnite’s Freediver Skin Has Very Limited Availability
One such skin is causing a stir in Fortnite‘s community now, as the Freediver skin has been released, but only through the Priority App, a special application available to customers of mobile providers O2 and Virgin Mobile in the United Kingdom. Customers of these carriers who use the app can claim a special code that allows them to undertake a unique quest in Fortnite. The ultimate rewards for completing this quest are the special Freediver skin and 100,000 XP. That UK-based restriction means that the skin is effectively locked to one region of the world, though some players seem to be finding ways around this limitation.
Freediver is a blue palette-swapped alternate version of Thrilldiver, a special purple-hued skin that was introduced earlier this year in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 4. It’s not just their appearances that are similar, as Thrilldiver was released in a nearly identical limited-availability manner through a partnership with Brazilian telecommunications company Vivo. With that history in mind, some savvy skin collectors already appear to have a game plan for acquiring Freediver skins.
It’s not difficult to find recent social media posts across Twitter and Reddit that offer codes for unlocking the Freediver skin, whether for purchase with real-world money or as giveaways, though players seeking to use this route should be wary of scammers. Additionally, some players have suggested that those outside the UK can use a VPN to access the Priority App, although they would still run into the problem of needing an account with one of its mobile service providers. Those looking for a more traditional way to customize their in-game appearance can potentially get some free cosmetics through Fortnite‘s Party Up Winter Rush Event, which launched on November 19.
