Hytale is Speeding Up Content Update Production
Hytale fans may be excited to learn that the game’s developers intend to speed up production of the game as far as new updates are concerned. Hytale is already seeing a lot of success in its early days, and this commitment to updates will help to keep players coming back while also giving the developers more flexibility in the development process.
Hytale has already seen a number of updates in its early days. After nearly being axed entirely, Hytale was rescued and then released in early access on PC on January 13. Despite less than a month passing between then and now, the game has received multiple updates which have added everything from customization options to dinosaurs. Now, Hytale is making adjustments to how it releases updates going forward.
“I Have No Regrets” Hytale Developer Issues Statement on the Game’s Early Access Launch
One of the developer’s of the sandbox RPG Hytale speaks out about the game’s early access launch and what it took to get the game in a playable state.
Hytale Dev Details New Update Plans
Now, the CEO of Hypixel Studios, Simon Collins-Laflamme, shared a tweet explaining that future Hytale updates will work a bit differently in an effort to speed up production. The team intends to use a pre-release patchline with Hytale to be “more adventurous” with weekly updates that will introduce new features and iterations. Collins-Laflamme warns that the weekly pre-release updates will be “unstable by design,” but that will be communicated to players when known issues exist. The CEO assured players that Hytale has automated world backups, but recommended that players back up their own data as well if they intend to use the same worlds in the pre-release patchline. Once the development team is “comfortable” with the pre-release condition of the update, which could take one or more update iterations, they’ll announce an official release and its schedule. Players will also be alerted prior to the full update lands to ensure that mods and servers are as ready as they can be.
Collins-Laflamme notes that for the very first week of this new update system, players shouldn’t expect too much, as the team adjusts to this new method. In the end, the hope is that the developers can spend more time working on the updates and their incoming features instead of spending as much time focusing on shipping them. Players should expect official releases to land anywhere from every 2 to 6 weeks, depending on the state of the pre-release updates. In both cases, hotfixes will still be released as needed, ensuring as smooth an experience as possible for players whether they only engage in the finalized releases, pre-releases, or both. In general, Hytale players responding to the news seem to be taking to it favorably, and are particularly thanking the developers for their transparency.
Hytale, The Game That Almost Wasn’t
Hytale is a rare case among games in this era, and not only for the developers’ openness about the process of updating the game. The CEO has called Hytale a “forever game,” stating that it will continue to receive updates for “as long as gaming exists.” Prior to its launch in early access, Hytale had already secured the first two years of funding for its continued development through early access pre-orders alone. While it’s still early, it’s a tremendous comeback tale for a game that was almost completely canceled.
Fans of Minecraft and the Hypixel server that ultimately led to the game’s development were extremely upset to hear that Hytale had been canceled back in mid-2025. Even the developer of Stardew Valley voiced his opinion on the matter, stating that if there was something he could do to help, he was open to the idea. However, Simon Collins-Laflamme was able to rescue the game by purchasing its rights back, and released the game shortly after to eager fans. While this meant that Hytale ultimately launched in an unfinished state, fans seem to be quite pleased with the game so far and its potential, and this reconfirmed commitment to updates and keeping players informed is promising.
