Pokemon Fan Art Imagines Human Forms for Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur

By newsgame

A Pokemon fan artist took to social media to share their concepts of what Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur could look like with human forms. The Pokemon fan artist said that their human designs for Bulbasaur and its evolved forms were based on a specific theme, and that their work is part of a larger project that will eventually cover all Gen 1 creatures.

Known as the Seed Pokemon, Bulbasaur and its later forms first appeared in Pokemon Red and Blue. Bulbasaur is the first Grass-type Starter in the Pokemon franchise that players can choose, with Charmander and Squirtle being its Fire and Water counterparts. The beloved creature evolves into Ivysaur at level 16, followed by Venusaur at level 32. As it evolves, the bulb on Bulbasaur’s back begins to open, fully blooming as it becomes a Venusaur. In Pokemon X and Y, Venusaur received a Mega-Evolved form that made the plant on its back grow even further. Mega Venusaur returned in Pokemon Legends: Z-A as a Rogue Mega-Evolved boss that trainers must face during the main story.

Pokemon Fan Artist Depicts Bulbasaur Line With Human Features

Given that Bulbasaur has appeared in many Pokemon games, it is natural that fan artists have made tributes to the Seed Pokemon in their own way. On the franchise’s subreddit, Reddit user TheGoblinCodex posted their idea of what Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur could look like as humans, or ‘gijinka’, and utilized a high fantasy motif for their designs. Bulbasaur was depicted as a child wearing a green kilt, with its bulb strapped to a wooden backpack and various pouches. Bulbasaur also carried a small wooden walking stick with a golden orb on top. Upon evolving to Ivysaur, it gains light green tattoos on its right arm, with the orb on its staff blooming into a golden flower. Ivysaur’s bulb is also seen in its lap rather than its back.

Upon becoming a Venusaur, the blooming bulb was instead depicted as a headdress, and tattoos cover its entire torso and half of its face. To this day, the gijinka concept remains popular among Pokémon fan artists, as each artist offers their own take on what a Pokemon like Regirock could look like with human features. In response, other Pokemon fans complimented TheGoblinCodex for their handiwork and theme choices.

TheGoblinCodex said that the Charmander evolution line would be their next art project, and remarked how popular Charizard is among Pokemon fans and artists. It remains to be seen when their next Pokemon fan art project will be completed.
