New Steam Game That’s Like Zelda Meets Bloodborne With a Dash of Red Dead Redemption Locks Down Release Date
Tombwater, a new game coming to Steam that combines the elements of The Legend of Zelda, Bloodborne, and Red Dead Redemption, has locked in its release date of March 31 on PC. The Soulslike western action-adventure game has already attracted a lot of attention with previous demo releases, and fans can now try out an updated demo that should give them a better picture of what the finished game will look like when it launches on Steam in early spring.
Developed by Moth Atlas and published by Midwest Games, Tombwater‘s creators say they drew heavy inspiration from FromSoftware’s Bloodborne and early games in Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise, and the similarities aren’t too hard to see. Pre-release gameplay footage has shown off a lone, pixelated wild west gunslinger running about an isometric wild west world, dashing around the screen while battling against rough bandits and terrifying, shadowy monsters alike, all while trying to find a lost friend and uncover the dark secrets of the nearly abandoned town.

Tombwater Locks Down March 31 Release Date on Steam
Now, Tombwater’s developers have solidified the game’s official release date of March 31. Though its gameplay reflects its inspirations well, Tombwater has also drawn comparisons to Red Dead Redeption through its setting, which brings out a nostalgic old-west feeling while twisting it with dark imagery of tendrils reaching op from the silver mines below the town of Tombwater, all across the game’s extensive map.
The upcoming game also looks to have a lot of replay value, as players will be able to choose between seven distinct classes, all with their own strengths and weaknesses, to battle across the game’s various reasons and go toe-to-toe with its horrifying Eldritch bosses. They’ll have plenty of ways to go about facing off against the forces of darkness, as the game supports more than 50 different firearms and melee weapons and over 20 spells that players can make use of, and kitting out their saddlebags efficiently will be one of the major keys to survival. But the dangers won’t be limited to the physical realm, as the echoes and tendrils emanating from the abandoned mines will also put a strain on the lone gunslinger’s sanity.
Tombwater‘s first demo was released in April 2025, giving players their first taste of its Soulslike combat, wild west setting, and collection of Eldritch horrors. Now, an updated demo has been added just a little over a month before the game’s official release, bringing some new features to combat and accessibility. In the updated demo, players can now try out the stagger combat mechanic, which should put a new spin on combat, as well as a camera option that allows them to look ahead and see what dangers lie before them. Players can also opt for a more linear experience than past demos of Tombwater have provided, as the development team has added some new difficulty options that should make the runback experience a lot less tedious and maddening.
The new demo drop comes as part of Steam Next Fest, which kicked off on February 23 and is set to run through March 2. The special event is held three times a year on the PC gaming platform, giving developers a chance to show off their upcoming games with playable demos, which has the added effect of letting them gather feedback from players and refine their games’ features. With hundreds of demos being released throughout the week, Tombwater is facing a lot of competition for players’ attention, but its developers hope that the 20 hours of promised gameplay in the full release will be a good reason to check out Tombwater during Steam Next Fest.
