Final Fantasy 14 Performer Gets a Personal Apology from Yoshi-P
Sena Bryer, the performer who provided the voice of Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail lead Wuk Lamat, has been given a personal apology by none other than the game’s director, Naoki Yoshida. It’s the latest development in the wake of the backlash against the Final Fantasy 14 performer.
Final Fantasy 14‘s latest expansion, Dawntrail, released back in 2024, and has seen its fair share of controversy. The MMORPG’s overall player count has dropped considerably, and the overall mixed reception to the expansion is being thoughtfully considered by the developers as they work on the game’s next major release. While much of the criticism has been well-intentioned and aimed at the story or gameplay, that hasn’t been true for all of it, especially with regard to Sena Bryer.
Yoshi-P Apologizes to Wuk Lamat Voice Performer
In a chat with The Gamer, Sena Bryer sat down to discuss her role in the game and the backlash her character and performance received. Wuk Lamat has been a controversial character, in no small part due to her role in the story and the focus on her in Dawntrail. However, Yoshi-P’s apology was intended for Bryer herself, due to the intense negativity she faced online. Bryer apparently met with Yoshi-P during Anime Expo, where he was an official guest earlier in 2025.
According to Bryer, Yoshi-P was “very kind,” and apologized for the fallout that had occurred in the wake of her role in the game. Sena Bryer received hateful messages and tweets because some apparently took issue with a transgender individual playing the role. Bryer reported the issue to Square Enix, which took it seriously, with Yoshi-P noting that the experience broke his heart, and Square Enix taking action to protect its workers from further abuse. At Anime Expo, Yoshi-P apparently apologized on behalf of the entire team for what had happened. Obviously, the hate targeting Bryer wasn’t due to any actions on the Final Fantasy 14 development team’s part, but it’s clear from the response that the team was disheartened at the situation.
Final Fantasy 14 re-recorded some of Wuk Lamat’s dialogue in response to the honest criticism regarding the performance, which some have suggested may have been due to the voice direction, not the performer. While facing the vitriol of the internet was not enjoyable, Bryer did share that she had no regrets, acknowledging that she had received far more messages of support than negativity, saying that she got a ratio of around 100 supportive DMs on Twitter for every hateful message received.
