Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Adds Tons of Dialogue From Early Access
A brand-new Baldur’s Gate 3 mod has restored tons of content that was initially featured in the Early Access version of the game, but was cut before the final release. This Baldur’s Gate 3 mod includes over 1,000 lines of dialogue and over 100 new conversations that only gamers who played in Early Access may have ever seen.
Because of its massive success on launch, it’s easy to forget that Baldur’s Gate 3 was actually an Early Access title for almost three years. During that time, players could play through iterations of Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Act 1, which evolved massively until the game’s eventual 2023 release. Those who remember Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Early Access period will recall some pretty big differences, including a vastly different version of Karlach. Reception to these early versions of the game was rather frosty, and the game really made great use of the Early Access time to polish and refine the game further.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Early Access Content Finally Restored, Thanks To This Mod
A new Baldur’s Gate 3 mod over on Nexus Mods, named Early Access Scenes Restored, was released on January 24 by modder HyperspaceTowel. The mod focuses on lines of dialogue, NPCs, and entire conversations that were cut from Baldur’s Gate 3‘s Early Access. This includes over 100 conversations and over 1,000 lines of voiced dialogue, all of which have been restored to the game. According to the creator, while some of the content was cut justifiably, “a surprising amount still works well in the final game.” Players can expect more encounters, camp events, more companion approval and disapproval, and overall more companion reactivity throughout Act 1. Specific restored content includes Gale’s deer stew, the enthralled fishermen, and Shadowheart’s ultimatum, but there’s plenty more than that in this new Baldur’s Gate 3 mod.
Talented modders were right to work on modding Baldur’s Gate 3 right after its release. However, Larian wouldn’t release the official modding toolkit until late 2024, which was an absolute game-changer for creators. Following the release of the modding tools, the really ambitious mods started to enter development, which gamers are starting to see the results of now. For example, there’s one Baldur’s Gate 3 mod that adapts a popular Dungeons & Dragons campaign, which is a massive undertaking. As more of these ambitious mods continue to release in the coming months and years, the Baldur’s Gate 3 experience will only get better.
Cut content is another area where Baldur’s Gate 3 shines. It’s no secret at this point that the game has a vast amount of cut content that didn’t make it into the final game, and there are still traces of what was removed. Since launch, modders have made it a mission to add back plenty of Baldur’s Gate 3‘s cut content, which helps to bring the game further in line with Larian’s original vision. Of course, there are many cases where content was removed for good reason, but ultimately, it’s up to individual players whether they want to download these kinds of mods and add them back into the game.
While Larian may be largely done with Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s cool to see that the game’s community is still thriving over two years after its launch. The developer has instead moved on to the development of Divinity, the next CRPG in its own long-running fantasy IP. Little is known about the game so far, but Larian has already revealed that Baldur’s Gate 3 mods are inspiring Divinity in different ways, showing how the community has already impacted the developer’s next title.
