How to Get the Necromancer Grimoire and Summon Skeletons in Hytale
The Rekindle Embers Grimoire (or the Necromancy Grimoire) is one of the first magical items introduced in Hytale. This lets players summon a group of friendly skeleton minions that will fight for them. However, unlike the majority of items in the game, the Necromancy Grimoire cannot be crafted. Instead, it is a somewhat rare drop from an enemy that is also somewhat hard to find. If you’re trying to get some of these spooky books yourself in Hytale, here’s what you need to do.

Where to Get Rekindle Embers Grimoires in Hytale
These spellbooks can be dropped by Skeleton Praetorians, the large and intimidating undead fighters that you can find roaming Zone 4. In our experience, Praetorians can be infrequently found roaming most of Zone 4’s sub-regions, though they have a tendency to appear more often in the ash-filled areas like the one in the image above.
These enemies have a chance to drop 5 Rekindle Ember Grimoires when defeated as well as a random assortment of loot, including rare ores.
How to Use Rekindle Embers Grimoire in Hytale
In order to actually summon skeletons with the Rekindle Embers Grimoire in Hytale, you’ll first need to get Piles of Skulls. The Skeleton Praetorians mentioned above also have a chance to drop these, but if they don’t, try looking underground or in POIs where there are plenty of lesser skeletons.
Once you get a Pile of Skulls, equip it in your hotbar, then place it down in front of you. Equip your necromancer spellbook, hold the Left Mouse Button, then release when the bar is fully charged. A skeleton warrior will appear from the Pile of Skulls.
Every minion you raise will consume a Pile of Skulls and one Rekindle Embers Grimoire. However, there seems to be no limit to how many skeletons you can raise (apart from your limited stock of Grimoires and skull piles, of course). You can theoretically raise an entire graveyard’s worth of skeletons using Rekindle Embers Grimoires, assuming you can actually get enough books and bones to do so.
Skeleton minions will expire after 5 minutes, or if their summoner dies. They also cannot swim, and ironically, they will drown if they stay submerged in water for too long, so try not to summon them near big bodies of water.
Skeletons will only attack enemies that you personally hit, otherwise they’ll just stand there and watch you get clobbered. Lastly, your own minions can damage you if you stand in the way of their attacks.
