Resident Evil Requiem Doesn’t Have a Collector’s Edition, and Some Are Blaming Donald Trump
A gaming industry insider stated that the policies and tariffs issued by US President Donald Trump, and the associated costs, may be a reason behind Capcom’s choice not to give Resident Evil Requiem a physical collector’s edition. Despite Capcom not offering a collector’s edition of Resident Evil Requiem, additional goods for the upcoming title will be sold independently of any game bundles.
During the January 15 Resident Evil Showcase, Capcom shared more details about the gameplay elements that players can experience in Resident Evil Requiem. The developers said that Resident Evil Requiem will utilize the survival horror aspects of Resident Evil Village for Grace Ashcroft’s side of the story. Resident Evil Requiem will also offer players an optional difficulty setting that will bring back ink ribbons and limited saves during Grace’s segments. By contrast, fan-favorite character Leon S. Kennedy will be featured in action-focused levels based on the gameplay style of Resident Evil 4 Remake, as he can pick up weapons to cut down hordes of zombies.
PS5 Has 9 Big Games Releasing in February 2026
PlayStation 5 gamers have a lot to look forward to in February 2026, with nine big new game releases on the horizon.
Trump’s Tariffs May Have Cost Resident Evil Requiem Its Collector’s Edition
Although Resident Evil Requiem will have physical copies of the base and deluxe editions of the game, the lack of a collector’s edition did not escape the notice of long-time fans. In response to a question from a Twitter user, known gaming industry insider Dusk Golem said that the tariffs implemented by the Trump administration led Capcom to not release a collector’s edition for Resident Evil Requiem like past Resident Evil entries have had. Although Capcom has not officially stated why Resident Evil Requiem has no collector’s edition, the rising costs to manufacture goods have been a constant factor since Trump’s return to office.
The gaming industry immediately felt the impact of Trump’s tariffs after the administration implemented them in early 2025. Following the tariff announcements, analysts stated that games and consoles would become more expensive to make, as companies passed the costs on to consumers across the globe. In the second half of 2025, Sony increased the prices on its PS5 console lineup in response to the tariffs. The tariffs also resulted in two price increases for the Xbox console lineup throughout 2025.
While gamers will not have a physical collector’s edition of Resident Evil Requiem to go after, Capcom still has some goodies for fans to consider. In short, the closest thing to a Resident Evil Requiem Collector’s Edition that fans can get is the game’s Deluxe Edition. The additional goods that come with Resident Evil Requiem Deluxe Edition are completely digital and include some costumes and weapon skins for Grace and Leon, among other perks. A premium steelbook version of Resident Evil Requiem Deluxe Edition is also available through various retailers.
Resident Evil Requiem Will Still Have Some Physical Goodies
Along with the base and deluxe versions of Resident Evil Requiem, Nintendo users in particular will have a few additional collectibles to consider. A Resident Evil Requiem edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller will be available once the game launches on February 27. However, the special controller will carry an eye-watering price tag of $100, a $10 price increase from the base version of the Switch 2 Pro Controller. Additionally, Capcom said that Resident Evil Requiem will receive an Amiibo lineup at a later date and encouraged fans to stay tuned for more information.
Capcom also stated that 1/6 scale statues of Leon and Grace will also be available at various retailers. However, the statues will not be released until the fall of 2026, months after Resident Evil Requiem‘s release. With the rising cost of goods showing no signs of slowing down, fans looking to buy a Switch 2 or other system to play Resident Evil Requiem on should not wait long before prices potentially jump up again.
