Hytale Dev Has Plans to Flesh Out Its Cozy Side

By newsgame

I know I’m not alone when it comes to my strong opinions about Stardew Valley being one of the greatest farm life sims ever made, and now my newfound love for Hytale has just increased as well after Hypixel Studios founder Simon Collins-Laflamme just confirmed the team’s plans to expand on the game’s cozy side. In a recent reply to a fellow Hytale fan’s X post, Collins-Laflamme revealed the studio’s goal of assembling a team that can focus their efforts entirely on the cozy side of the game. As a massive fan of cozy games like Stardew Valley, the idea of Hytale eventually becoming something similar has me ecstatic, to say the least.

Hytale‘s early access period has only just begun, but it is already proving to be a solid experience in many ways. In addition to what it already offers, the developer continues to show its commitment to giving the community what they want (within reason, of course), to the point that its new catchphrase seems to be, “Community asks? Community receives!” Now, the recent confirmation that Hytale may one day become the ultimate cozy playground is only further confirmation of that commitment.

Hypixel Founder Wants to Make Hytale the Ultimate Cozy Playground

Collins-Laflamme’s comments on Hytale‘s cozy potential came after X user @MeltyLoo expressed interest in playing the game in its current state, with the emphasis that they would be even more interested if it ever fleshed out “farming and cooking with crops and recipes for food and stuff.” It’s likely @MeltyLoo never expected a direct reply from the studio’s founder, and it’s even more doubtful they expected what that reply would say.

“My goal is to assemble a team that entirely focus on farming / cozy aspect of the game,” Collins-Laflamme said, “and let them achieve ultimate cozy heaven gameplay vibes.” While that points to something that will potentially take quite a bit of time to implement, it’s still a promise for something that me and other fans of cozy farming games like Stardew Valley can look forward to.

Currently, Hytale already has basic farming features that allow players to till soil, plant seeds, and grow a variety of crops and plants. Those crops can then be turned into food or consumables that players can take with them on their adventures. However, the game’s other cozy elements—like animal husbandry and deeper animal interactions—aren’t fully implemented yet and will likely arrive in future updates. Based on Collins-Laflamme’s recent comments, though, it seems they could eventually be far more than simple updates.

How to Farm in Hytale

  • BUILD A FARMER’S WORKBENCH: This unlocks farming tools and seeds.
  • CRAFT A HOE: Use it to till dirt or grass into plantable farmland.
  • GET SEEDS: Exchange Essence of Life at the Farmer’s Workbench for seeds.
  • PLANT SEEDS: Place seeds on tilled soil to start growth.
  • WATER CROPS: Use a watering can to make them grow faster (optional but recommended).
  • HARVEST WHEN READY: Interact with mature crops to collect produce and often more Essence of Life.
  • REPEAT: Replant seeds right after harvesting to keep your farm productive.

It should be noted that Hytale will likely never become a fully fledged farm life sim like Stardew Valley, as that would require adding brand-new features and systems, and potentially even an entirely different mode to the game. Games like Stardew Valley implement other features to fill in the “life” portion of the genre, like relationship mechanics, so it’s doubtful Hytale will eventually be anything more than a cozy farming sim on the side. That being said, the team at Hypixel Studios has already proven their passion for fulfilling requests from players, so anything is possible.

As someone who enjoys farm life sims like Stardew Valley, the idea of Hypixel dedicating real development resources to farming and cozy systems is what actually gets me excited here. It sounds like Simon Collins-Laflamme doesn’t just want farming to be a side activity with the idea of building a team whose entire focus is that slower style of play those games are known for. Hytale already supports basic farming, so this is less about reinventing the game and more about deciding what parts of it deserve long-term attention. Even if Hytale never aims to compete directly with full farm life sims, knowing that its developers value that experience enough to invest in it makes its future feel a lot more fascinating to me.
