Best Fuel to Use for Furnaces in Hytale

By newsgame

Smelting any type of ore in Hytale needs more than just raw ores. You’ll need some sort of fuel to light the fire in your Furnace, and with there being many different types of fuel in the game, players won’t exactly be left wanting. However, fuel efficiency is something that you’ll need to consider, especially if you want to smelt as many ores as possible while you’re away from home. Thankfully, Hytale is pretty generous when it comes to Furnace fuel, both in terms of supply abundance and the efficiency of the most abundant fuel type in the game.

So far, we’ve found the best fuel for Furnaces in Hytale to be simple wooden logs/trunks of any kind. In our tests, we used Tier 2 Furnaces smelting Cobalt Ores using different types of fuel, and we found the following:

  • 100 Charcoal is good for 33 Cobalt Ingots
  • 100 Sticks are good for 22 Cobalt Ingots
  • 100 Amber Logs are good for roughly 50 Cobalt Ingots. Only 70 logs were consumed in the process.

Fuel efficiency was the same for Amber Logs, so it’s safe to assume that such is the case with other wooden logs. In any case, not only are wooden logs very efficient for smelting ores in Furnaces, but they are also plentiful and very easy to get (unless you’re in a zone where there are few trees).

Tree Sap can also be used as fuel for Furnaces, but they have the same fuel efficiency as Charcoal. If you’d rather use your wooden logs/trunks for building, then excess Tree Sap is a decent fuel alternative.

While Plant Fibers can also be used as fuel, they are too inefficient for smelting ores. You’re better off using them for other crafting recipes that need them.

Farming Trees

Even if you are in a barren, tree-less place, you can always plant trees in your backyard. To do so, you’ll need a Farmer’s Workbench. There’s a tab in the Farmer’s Workbench that’s dedicated to Saplings, and to craft one, you’ll need a few Essences of Life.

You can get Essences of Life by harvesting crop plants like Wheat and Corn. You don’t have to plant any of these yourself, though it’d be much better if you did. Making a farm in Hytale is essential for convenient progression and ingredient collection.
