Fable Is Coming to PS5 at Launch

By newsgame

A huge new rumor suggests that a major upcoming Xbox exclusive will be coming to the PlayStation 5 on launch, with Fable reportedly planned to debut on the Sony console. Xbox looks to have a big year ahead for first-party releases, with some major franchises already confirmed for 2026. The gaming brand is expected to pull out all the stops in 2026, with beloved series like Halo, Gears of War, and Forza all receiving new games throughout the year. However, one of Microsoft’s most notable plans for 2026 comes with the revival of the Fable franchise.

Fable was once a staple of the Xbox lineup, with the Lionhead Studios-developed RPGs being a mainstay of the first two consoles. Microsoft and Lionhead debuted the first Fable to rave reviews in 2004, with many fans praising the game’s combat system and the depth of its main story and side quests. Lionhead released two more major sequels in Fable 2 and Fable 3 alongside several spinoffs, though the franchise has fallen entirely dormant since 2017 card game Fable Fortune. Now, Fable is making its long-awaited return with a new game and a surprising arrival to another platform.

Fable May Be Launching Simultaneously on PS5

During a recent episode of the VGC Podcast, VGC editor-in-chief and gaming insider Andy Robinson shared some surprising news about the new Fable. According to Robinson, Fable is currently planned to release “day and date” on PS5 alongside the Xbox version, with Sony fans also getting to experience the franchise’s return. He shares that developer Playground Games has been eyeing a release for the game on PS5, while the podcast also mentioned Forza Horizon 6 not launching simultaneously on PS5. Microsoft and Playground Games have yet to confirm a hard release date for Fable, beyond its current 2026 launch window.

Fable‘s planned release later this year comes as much about the RPG is still a mystery to fans. Microsoft and Playground have shown off very little of Fable‘s gameplay through their official channels, with trailers only giving snippets of the world and gameplay players can expect. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to learn all about the newest entry in the beloved franchise, however, with Fable receiving a gameplay deep dive during Microsoft’s upcoming January Xbox Showcase. The game’s story has also briefly been teased through official trailers, with Fable confirmed to be a reboot of the franchise.

Microsoft has confirmed that the PS5 wave will continue into 2026 with more exclusives hitting Sony platforms for the first time, including arguably the Xbox developer’s biggest exclusive in Halo.
