After Fan Backlash to Official New Switch 2 Joy-Cons, DBrand Announces a “Fix”
Popular third-party accessory company DBrand has announced a brand-new “fix” to a pair of newly revealed Switch 2 Joy-Cons, following poor reception to the official controllers. The debut of the newest home console from Nintendo brought plenty of excitement from fans, making some major improvements from the original Switch with its next-gen platform. The Switch 2 offers an array of new features, ranging from GameShare allowing users to play games with others who don’t own them to a full voice and video chat system. However, the console’s controllers were home to some of the Switch 2’s biggest upgrades.
Nintendo pushed huge improvements to its iconic Joy-Con controllers with the launch of the Switch 2. The controllers swapped the sliding connection of the original Joy-Cons for a magnetic connection, making it quicker and snappier for players to remove the Joy-Con 2. The technology used in the controllers also saw some big changes, with Nintendo adding the touted new Mouse functionality alongside improving the motion controls, among a suite of other upgrades. Nintendo even recently announced the first new colors for the Joy-Con 2, though fans have taken some issue with the colorful new options.
New Report Claims to Reveal Why Nintendo Switch 2’s Holiday Sales Were Lower Than Expected
A new report indicates that the Nintendo Switch 2 didn’t sell as well as expected over the holidays, and explains why that’s the case.
DBrand Answers Joy-Con 2 Backlash With New Skins
Following fan backlash towards the Joy-Con 2’s new colors, accessory company DBrand announced its own fix to the problem. Nintendo’s new Joy-Con 2 controllers have seen criticism for the subtle placement of their new purple and light-green colors, with the colors being nearly indistinguishable when connected to the Switch 2 console. DBrand’s solution to the problem comes with a pair of skins for the Joy-Con 2 controllers, taking the same color scheme and stretching it across the entire controller. DBrand even took a chance to jab at Nintendo within its product description, proudly claiming that the company “does what Nintendon’t.” DBrand’s purple and green Joy-Con 2 skins are already available for pre-order for $19.95 USD, scheduled to ship sometime in February.
The flashy new Joy-Con 2 skins are far from the first time DBrand has offered its own take on new console colors. The company offers a wide array of accessories for electronic devices, boasting everything from DBrand phone cases to a plethora of skins for gaming consoles. DBrand has not been shy about poking fun at gaming brands in regard to new color combinations and accessories, taking shots at companies like Sony and Nintendo while promoting their own alternatives. Many of its products highlighted on the accessory company’s website even joke about different developers, right on DBrand’s homepage.
Nintendo’s New Joy-Cons Have Seen Significant Fan Criticism
Nintendo’s newly-announced Joy-Con 2 controllers have seen notable criticism from fans for their subtle coloration. The positioning of the colors on the Joy-Con completely masks the inside colors when in handheld mode, only showing their new colors peeking out from beneath the joysticks. The color change comes in stark contrast to many of the options for the original Switch, with the entire controllers painted in their specific color. The new Joy-Con 2 controllers are also notably the first new colors available for the console since its launch, previously only featuring the standard black Joy-Con 2 with red-and-blue trim.
The new line of Joy-Con 2 controllers comes as Nintendo looks to have a busy start to 2026, with lots on the way throughout January and February. The Switch 2 will welcome the debut of one of its biggest early ports in late January, with Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade launching on the console on January 22. Nintendo is also gearing up for the release of its first Mario sports games on the Switch 2 in February, recently giving players a closer look at Mario Tennis Fever. Nintendo fans should have lots to be excited about throughout the first few months of the year, despite the middling reception to its newest Joy-Cons.
