StarRupture is an interesting proposal from the creators of Green Hell, and with one of the nastiest Survival Mechanics players can find in a Survival Crafter: A planet-wide wipe that incinerates all life on the surface in an instant. So, players are usually careful when they pick their starting Character, since all of them have different backgrounds and, apparently, abilities.

If you are in doubt about who you should pick to start your exploration in Arcadia-7, this guide will clarify everything you should know about characters and whether there’s any difference between them or not.

Which Character Should You Choose in StarRupture?

At the moment of writing this guide, there’s no clear difference between characters in StarRupture, except maybe for the voice actors and different personalities imbued to them, which are most notable during dialogues and yelps. It would seem that there’s a hidden Feature that is currently not active in the way the roles of these characters are distributed: Soldier for Combat, Biologist for Support and Healing, Engineer for Building, and Scientist for Research.

There’s no current information on whether the developers decided to rollback an existing mechanic that enhanced the abilities of X character depending on their Role, and also, no information on whether they will include it in future patches or not. Remember, it’s an Early Access game, and many things can change until release.

Players should feel free to pick whichever character they want to at the moment, and play however they like since there doesn’t seem to be any difference between them.

But if they choose to play in cooperative mode, what they can do instead is pick characters according to the roles they want to play. Plus, the dialogue and interactions between characters with different roles are absolutely hilarious. Without spoiling the fun, let’s say that they don’t get particularly well, and there’s a nice back and forth between them as they work their way around the hostile environments of Arcadia-7 (your AI assistant GAL doesn’t help too much to pacify the waters either).

How To Change Characters in StarRupture

Players won’t be able to enjoy different features when trying different characters in StarRupture. However, there’s a silver lining: Players can switch between characters at any given time, and here’s how to do it:

First, unlock the Regeneration Chamber by leveling up Future Health Solutions to Level 2 (or go to the Landing Pod).
Place and activate the Regeneration Chamber, or use the one in the Landing Pod (starter area).
Choose whichever character you want, then accept.
The character will switch, but players will keep their inventory and unlocked skills.

This is a simple but effective method for players to test out for themselves which character they feel more attuned with. The quirky but psychopathic Scientist, the gritty and fearless Engineer, the seasoned Soldier, or the scaredy-cat Biologist. There’s no way to miss with any of the choices, so go ahead, pick whichever draws your attention and enjoy exploring Arcadia-7 at your heart’s content.
