Black Ops 7 Season 01 Reloaded Pre-Load File Size Revealed

By newsgame

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 publisher Activision has confirmed that players will be able to jump into the first major content update of the year on January 8, but fans will want to make sure they’ve cleared out plenty of space on their hard drives, as the file size appears to be absolutely massive. The next update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone, which is known as Season 1 Reloaded and marks the official halfway point of the shooter’s first season, will see the addition of new maps, modes, weapons, and more, but not without a nearly 200GB update.

Following the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in November, Treyarch wasted no time in giving players an absolutely jam-packed content update with Season 1, which launched for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on December 4. Black Ops 7‘s first season added three brand-new maps, a remaster of the iconic Black Ops 2 map Standoff, and classic game modes, including Prop Hunt, One In The Chamber, Sharpshooter, and more. Those who are more fond of Call of Duty‘s free-to-play Battle Royale title, Warzone, also had plenty to check out, as Season 1 saw the two shooters become fully integrated with each other. Not only could players take in all of their levelled-up Black Ops 7 weapons into Warzone, but the update also treated fans to a fresh Resurgence map known as Haven’s Hollow.

Black Ops 7’s First Mid-Season Update Is 174 GB on Battle.net

As we approach the halfway point of Season 1, Activision and Treyarch are gearing up to release a mid-season refresh with Call of Duty‘s big Season 1 Reloaded update. It has now been confirmed that the update will go live on Thursday, January 8, but some players are able to pre-load the patch right now, and it’s absolutely massive. Some users are reporting that the file size for the update is over 174 GB on Battle.net. It’s unclear why players are being required to download such a massive update, but there are a few caveats to this enormous update. The size of the patch will vary depending on the platform, and it will also be different depending on what players have installed. For those who only play Warzone and don’t have Black Ops 7 installed, for example, the size of the update will likely be much smaller.

Aside from a brief trailer showcasing the new maps launching alongside Season 1 Reloaded, further details are currently unknown. Thankfully, a blog post breaking down the update is expected to arrive tomorrow, January 7. What is currently known is that the mid-season refresh will see the addition of a brand-new map known as Jakei, set across the neon-lit rooftops of Japan. More nostalgia is also on the way, as two more remastered maps will also be available with Season 1 Reloaded. The first of which is Fringe, an iconic Black Ops 3 map, and Meltdown, a Black Ops 2 map that has never been remastered before.

This isn’t the first time that Call of Duty has had a massive file size for one of its major updates, and it likely won’t be the last. The franchise has become a bit of a running joke in recent years, as the controversial Call of Duty HQ app takes up tons of space on players’ hard drives if they have multiple packs and titles installed. While new entries in the series were once their own separate apps, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC users are now forced to navigate the clunky UI of Call of Duty HQ, a unified app that currently includes Warzone, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7. 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 and its follow-up, Modern Warfare 3, were recently removed from the app and can now be downloaded as separate titles.

With the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 barely making a dent in the Call of Duty HQ app’s player count on Steam, many fans likely won’t be eager to return to the franchise with a 174GB update. After numerous controversies surrounding cosmetic items, cheaters, and lackluster updates throughout Black Ops 6‘s life cycle, it appears to have had a serious knock-on effect for Black Ops 7, as the latest entry in the series was beaten by Battlefield 6 this year.
