ARC Raiders Devs Comment on the Possibility of a TV or Movie Adaptation

By newsgame

Embark Studios CEO Patrick Söderlund has commented on the possibility of its hit third-person extraction shooter, ARC Raiders, receiving a potential film or TV adaptation. While the studio’s second title isn’t even three months old yet, Söderlund says there has already been numerous offers from various different production companies looking to turn ARC Raiders into a film or television series. Sadly, it looks like none of these offers have been accepted as of writing.

Those who have already played ARC Raiders will be familiar enough with the game’s background to know that Embark has conjured up a post-apocolyptic world with deep lore, which would translate fantastically to the big or small screen. After an environmental collapse wiped out much of the human race, survivors were forced underground after myterious robots known as ARC began taking over. With resources being limited, scavengers must head Topside to gather supplies and fight for their survival. While there is no single-player element to the game, the story is explained through quests and dialogue from key characters such as Tian Wen, Celeste, Lance, and many of the other traders in the game.

Film and TV Studios Already Want to Adapt ARC Raiders

During a recent interview with GamesBeat (via VideoGamer), Embark Studios CEO Patrick Söderlund revealed that the studio has already received countless offers from production companies looking to adapt ARC Raiders into a film or television series. “I can’t tell you how many companies have reached out wanting to make a TV series [and] movie out of this IP [Arc Raiders],” the CEO told the outlet. While Söderlund says the idea of a film or television adaptation would be “fun,” it looks like it won’t be happening anytime soon as Embark has seemingly declined the current offers. The CEO says there isn’t “anyone working on a TV or film adaptation yet.” So while it’s bad news for those looking to see ARC Raiders make the jump to film or TV, Embark is clearly open to the idea and willing to take its new IP to the next level.

It’s no surprise that Embark is already receiving offers to adapt its newest IP into a film or television series, given how succesful ARC Raiders has been for the studio already. Despite launching between Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, two of the biggest shooters of 2025, ARC Raiders managed to come out on top, retaining 91% of its active player base on Steam while Battlefield 6‘s fell by 85%. The shooter has received rave reviews from both players and critics, while also reportedly selling more than 12 million copies and peaking at 3.2 million daily active users on January 4, according to data from Alinea Analytics.

Adaptations of popular video games have also been on the up and up in recent times. HBO’s take on The Last Of Us, the iconic two-part video game series by Naughty Dog, has been one of the many adaptations to receive tons of praise from critics. While there has still been the occasional outlier, such as the divisive Paramount+ Halo series, which was canned by the studio after just two seasons, or the incredibly poorly received Borderlands movie, studios appear to finally be finding their footing when it comes to adaptating video games for the big or small screen. A Minecraft Movie, Sonic the Hedgehog, Arcane, Fallout, are just some of the hugely succesfull adaptations that took the world by storm over the last few years.

However, things haven’t been all sunshine and roses for Embark since the launch of ARC Raiders. In the same interview with GamesBeat, the studio’s CEO attempted to defend the usage of generative AI in ARC Raiders, something it has been under fire for. The title uses the text-to-speech system to generate dialogue much quicker. Although Embark paid real voice actors for the system, many fans were firmly against the practice, but Söderlund has urged players to “take a step back and understand what it is and how it can be a big help to developers.”
