Where Winds Meet: Sects Guide

By newsgame

Sects are factions in the world of Where Winds Meet, and unlike the usual ones found in other MMORPGs, joining a sect can have a drastic impact on how you experience the game. There’s a huge roleplaying element involved with sects, and they have some pretty cool rewards for players who can reach the very top of a sect’s chain of command. Here’s how you can join one in Where Winds Meet as well as quick overviews of what you can expect from each of them.

How to Join Sects in Where Winds Meet

The first thing you want to do is go to the Sects menu from the main in-game menu. You’ll find the button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. This will lead you to the Sects screen, which contains all the important info you need to know about each of the organizations.

Go to the Join Sect screen, then pick a sect that interests you. In the lower-right corner of the screen, you’ll see an “Entry Clue” button. Press that, and you’ll get a clue about where you need to go in order to find a clue leading to your sect of choice. Once you find a clue, you’ll then need to finish a quest to become an official sect member.

This section of the guide is a WIP, as not all Sects are available in the game as of writing. Some information regarding some sects is also unknown, though they are expected to be revealed in future updates for the game.

Apart from following a certain theme and appearance, all Sects in WWM also have a strict set of rules that all members must follow. Violating them will come with consequences, which can include banishment from the sect. If you stay with a sect and increase your reputation with them, you’ll gain access to their unique Sect Shop selection, with the highest of ranks offering sect-themed cosmetics.

Description & Rules

Well of Heaven

Believers of true justice who are unbound by laws and morals. They value righteousness and brotherhood above all else, and they specialize in the Thundercry Blade Martial Arts.

San Qian’er in Qinghe’s Harvestfall Village will lead you to the Well of Heave…or will he?

  • Heroic Righteousness — Weekly Chivalrous Deeds require enough Adventure Slips as proof of valor!
  • Unrestrained Spirit — Sect may deduct 1,000 Precept Value.
  • Generous and Righteous — Weekly earnings should not be excessive, otherwise precept value -100.
  • Brotherhood – Disciples of the same sect must not harm one another.

Silver Needle

A sect of healers and well-doers. Members of the Silver Needle are dedicated to providing healing and assistance to those who need it, making it the perfect sect for support-minded players.

Silver Needle favors the Inkwell and Panacea Fans.

Aspiring Silver Needle members should look for Doctor Yuan in Sage’s Knoll.

  • One Life, One Price — Whether diagnosing ailments or emergency rescue, all Silver Needle disciples must demand payment for healing.
  • Shared Healing — Participate in Multiplayer healing and succeed: precept value +10.
  • Healing Bodies and Minds — Weekly requirement: At least 15 likes, otherwise precept value -10.

Midnight Blades

Members of the Midnight Blades sect are killers who tread along the Asura Path.

Violence is in their blood, and they are rewarded for killing other players.

The Infernal Twinblades are the Midnight Blades’ martial art of choice.

Visit Halo Peak on Sundara Land to get in contact with the Midnight Blades.

  • Kill to Seize Karma — Defeat wanderers to gain Karma Points. Being defeated deducts Karma Points.
  • Ultimate Bliss for All Beings — Head to Perception Forest to obtain large amounts of Karma Points.
  • Meditative Samadhi — in Open World combat, spare no lives.

Nine Mortal Ways

A sect of tricksters and pranksters.

Nine Mortal Ways thrives in mischief, and it treads the fine line between the mortal world and the realm of ghosts.

Its members favor the Mortal Rope Dart.

Perhaps San Qian’er in Harvestfall Village knows how to contact the Nine Mortal Ways sect.

  • Jianghu Fun — Earn weekly Fun Points by teasing/tricking others.
  • A Thousand Faces — Participate in Disguise, blending into the Nine Mortal Ways to experience diverse lives.
  • Deceiving Heaven — Failed tricks or jail time deducts 10 Virtue.

Velvet Shade

A passionate sect founded and led by women.

Its members operate as spies, and they favor the use of the Vernal/Ninefold Umbrella.

  • Full Bloom — Reveal charm to the world, follow your heart’s desires, and trade affection for hearts.
  • Drunk on Flowers — How can one only steal a single heart when drunk on a thousand flowers?

Raging Tides

Raging Tides is a military sect that proudly defends the land.

Its members are pure-hearted warriors who are constantly in pursuit of martial mastery.

Raging Tides favors the Heavenquaker and Stormbreaker Spear styles.

  • Spears Still Sharp? — A sword unpolished loses its edge, a spear untested loses its lethality. Raging Tides disciples must hone their spears daily through battle, never slacking.

The Masked Troupe

A mysterious sect that favors song and dance over martial arts, though this doesn’t mean its members are incompetent fighters.

Lone Cloud

Lone Cloud is a sect of mathematicians and swordmasters who value finesse over brute force.

They value the art of the Strategic Sword.

  • Forgotten by the Jianghu — Lone Clouds disciples rebonding must seek old comrade’s blessings.
  • The Riddle of Love — Love’s riddle is life’s hardest. Solve it once only,.
  • Streetwise Strategist — Experience get-quick-rich schemes in streets, or lose 10 Precept Value.

Hollow Vale

Hollow Vale acknowledges the careful balance between life and death, instilling the values of both within its disciples.

The sect’s members are capable of both healing and poisoning, and they believe one must always follow the other.

  • No Living Puppets — Life and death have boundaries; playing with Sleeping Puppets is forbidden. Though Hollow Vale Disciples bear poisoned bodies, their hearts are kind. Transforming the living into Sleeping Puppets is an ironclad [forbidden] sect rule. Those who experiment with themselves are exempt.
  • Balance of Life and Death — Where there is life, there must be death; where there is death, there must be life. Hollow Vale’s dual sources of healing and poison must remain balanced. For every life healed, poison must be used once. Failure invites self-inflicted suffering.

Inkbound Order

Scribes, scholars, and swordmasters. These are the usual descriptors for members of the Inkbound Order.

They value literature as much as martial arts, and the sect has close ties to the imperial court.

  • Writing and Scholarship — Sages’ words become the law for all under heaven.

Mohist Hill

Mohist Hill is for seekers of truth and believers of the greater good. They aid all they can without compromise.

  • Universal Love — Love universally, benefit mutually; those who benefit others will in turn be benefited. Self-benefit and benefiting others — this is the way of goodness.

If none of the sects interest you, you can always choose to remain Sectless. This way, you won’t be bound by any rules, and you can experience Where Winds Meet without any penalties. You’ll miss out on the sect-exclusive items (as well as the roleplaying elements), but you can still get a Sectless-specific outfit from the Sect Shop, which you can buy using Reputation points.

Reputation points are earned by completing Sect Commands under the Jianghu Errand section of the Sects menu.
