What to Expect From the Assassin’s Creed Franchise in 2026

By newsgame

It’s been a somewhat shaky year for developer/publisher Ubisoft. Following a rough 2024 that saw major titles like Star Wars Outlaws and Skull and Bones fail to meet internal expectations, early 2025 didn’t yield much better results, with the publisher’s February 2025 financial report confirming a 31.4% drop in revenue. For a while there, things looked pretty grim for Ubisoft’s future, but according to Ubisoft’s November financial report, things might not be as bad as they seem, with Assassin’s Creed still proving it’s worth its weight in gold.

It may have been met with a bit of a divisive reception from fans, but Assassin’s Creed Shadows earned very favorable reviews from many critics when it launched back in March 2025, with it currently sitting at an 81 Top Critic Average on OpenCritic. Assassin’s Creed Shadows also “overperformed” in terms of sales according to Ubisoft’s November financial report, as did legacy Assassin’s Creed titles, with the entire franchise collectively generating “211 million session days.” With the future of many of its franchises unclear, Ubisoft seems more likely than ever to go all-in on Assassin’s Creed, and that could mean a busy 2026 for the popular stealth-action franchise.

Despite apparently being a major success for the publisher, Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will no longer be receiving a second expansion. Back in November, Assassin’s Creed Shadows associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois said in an interview with JorRaptor that “there is no expansion on the size of Awaji that is planned.”

While a second full-size expansion may not be on the cards for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, there’s a possibility that it could continue receiving updates and new content drops of a smaller scale in 2026, akin to its recent Attack on Titan-themed crossover quest. Fans who picked up Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Nintendo Switch 2 can also probably expect a few updates over the coming months to improve the game’s performance on the handheld hybrid.

Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed Live-Action Adaptation — Likely To Be Shown in 2026

First announced in 2020, the partnership between Netflix and Assassin’s Creed seems to finally be coming to fruition. A live-action Assassin’s Creed series is officially in the works at Netflix, with Roberto Patino and David Wiener both on board as showrunners and executive producers. Just a few weeks ago, Netflix also officially confirmed that Laura Marcus, Zachary Hart, Toby Wallace, and Lola Petticrew are joining the cast, suggesting that the show is gaining traction behind the scenes.

While Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed live-action adaptation doesn’t have a release window and filming likely won’t start for a little while, it’s likely fans will receive another update about the show before 2026 ends. More specifically, fans can probably expect to hear more casting announcements at the very least in the coming 12 months.

Assassin’s Creed Jade — Likely To Be Shown in 2026

Announced in the same September 2022 Ubisoft Forward Showcase as Assassin’s Creed Hexe, Assassin’s Creed Infinity, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows (then known as Codename Red), Assassin’s Creed Jade is set to be the franchise’s first fully-fledged foray into the world of mobile games. Despite being announced over three years ago and undergoing several rounds of closed alpha and beta tests, Assassin’s Creed Jade still has no concrete release date.

But given how long the game has been in development for, it seems likely that fans will hear something official about Assassin’s Creed Jade soon. Though Ubisoft skipped its annual Forward showcase in 2025, it’s possible it could return in Summer 2026 given the number of projects confirmed and rumored to be in the works. If a Ubisoft Forward Showcase occurs in 2026, it seems likely Assassin’s Creed Jade will appear, possibly alongside a release window.

Assassin’s Creed Hexe — Could Be Shown in 2026

Also announced in September 2022, even less of Assassin’s Creed Hexe has been shown over the last three years. Aside from its initial teaser trailer that hinted at a 17th century Germanic setting and occult themes, nothing official has come from Assassin’s Creed Hexe since 2022. That said, some leaks from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson did surface back in March 2025 claiming that Hexe won’t release before the rumored Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake and Assassin’s Creed Invictus.

Given the lack of concrete information surrounding Assassin’s Creed Hexe, it’s difficult to predict when/if it’ll eventually release or even when fans will see it next. But if development has gone smoothly, then fans could at least see a trailer revealing Hexe‘s characters and settings in 2026, likely during a Ubisoft Forward event.

Though it didn’t appear in the September 2022 Ubisoft Forward Showcase, Assassin’s Creed Invictus was first mentioned on the same day via an interview with Assassin’s Creed Vice President Executive Producer Marc-Alexis Côté. The only official information fans know about Invictus is that it will be a multiplayer-focused project. Much like Hexe, there’s been no official hint of a release window for Hexe or a suggestion of how far along in development it may be.

That said, back in March 2025, Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson claimed that Assassin’s Creed Invictus was slated for a 2025 release. Though the game obviously didn’t launch in 2025, Henderson’s leak would suggest that it’s almost finished. If there are no sizable internal delays, then it seems possible that fans could finally get to see Assassin’s Creed Invictus in 2026, if not in its full form, then at least via a debut trailer.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake — Very Likely to be Revealed in 2026

Known far and wide as the worst-kept secret in gaming right now, the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake still hasn’t been officially announced by Ubisoft, but its existence has been leaked countless times over the last few years. The most recent set of leaks came in November and December 2025, when Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced appeared on the official PEGI rating website, and when Insider Gaming’s Grant Taylor-Hill claimed that the long-rumored remake could arrive as early as March 2026.

Obviously, all rumors and leaks should always be taken with a pinch of salt, but the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake really seems like a matter of when and not if at this point, given just how frequently it’s been leaked over the years. Even if it doesn’t release this year, it seems very likely that Ubisoft will at least officially announce the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake in 2026.

New Mainline Assassin’s Creed RPG — Not Likely to be Revealed in 2026

As evidenced by this list, Ubisoft already has its plate full of in-development Assassin’s Creed projects. In spite of that, recent job listings (November 2025) suggest that Ubisoft Quebec could be at work on a new Assassin’s Creed RPG entry already. But given how fresh these job listings are, fans probably won’t see Quebec’s next Assassin’s Creed RPG in 2026.
