Persona Series 2026 Plans Teased by Atlus

By newsgame

Persona 6 could finally be nearing a reveal, as hinted by some new forward-looking statements from Atlus officials reflecting on their 2026 plans for the long-running JRPG series. While the teasers don’t specifically mention Persona 6, they do name-drop another title.

Every December, Japanese outlet 4Gamer interviews senior officials at some of the top game studios in the Far Eastern country, asking them to reflect on the year ahead. Persona developer Atlus is routinely featured in these write-ups, offering vague hints about what it’s currently working on.

Persona 6 Mentioned by Atlus After Years of Silence

Atlus unexpectedly breaks its years-long silence on Persona 6, but does so in a way that only offers new questions rather than answers.

Atlus Producer Teases Multiple Persona Announcements for 2026

4Gamer‘s 2025 interview roundup features statements from several senior Atlus officials, including the long-time Persona producer Kazuhisa Wada. After acknowledging that next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the JRPG franchise, the industry veteran offered a promise: “2026 should be a time when we can share news regarding future developments for the [Persona] series.” The exact phrase Wada used is “シリーズ展開” (shirīzu tenkai), implying more than one Persona-related initiative possibly being planned for the year ahead. While the wording was not specific enough to confirm whether he was referring to games, events, or other projects, one of his colleagues appeared to help narrow down the subject of at least one of these plans.

Atlus Will Share More About Persona 4 Revival in 2026

Reflecting on the year ahead, producer Atsushi Nomura told 4Gamer that Atlus has “received a lot of support” for Persona 4 Revival following its June 2025 announcement at the Xbox Games Showcase. He added that the studio is eager to share more details about the upcoming remake in 2026. Like Wada, Nomura also acknowledged that next year is significant for marking the 30th anniversary of Revelations: Persona, the dungeon-crawling JRPG that kicked off the iconic franchise.

2026 should be a time when we can share news regarding future developments for the [Persona] series.

If Persona 6 Gets Announced in 2026, September Seems Like the Obvious Choice

Five days before the series celebrates its 30th anniversary on September 20, Persona 5 will turn ten. This makes September 2026 a highly symbolic month for Atlus, and a natural window for major announcements, should the company choose to make any next year. Even so, the Sega-owned studio may not opt for a full-fledged reveal right away. Its typical approach suggests that a brief teaser (similar to what Persona 4 Revival received in June 2025) would be the more likely route for the very first bit of official Persona 6 news. Notably, Persona 5 was also initially treated to a short teaser in November 2013 before receiving a longer trailer the following year.

For Reference: What Atlus Said About Its 2025 Plans Last Year (and What It Delivered)

This is not the first time that the Japanese studio has said something that could be interpreted as a hint at some Persona 6 news being on the horizon, even though none have officially materialized yet. Last year, Atlus teased an exciting announcement for 2025 that ended up being the remaster of Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army. However, the difference between its previous year-end remarks and this new set of comments is that the latter specifically acknowledges 2026 being a big year for the Persona series.

Persona Series 2025 Highlights

  • Persona 3 Reload Demo release (April 8)
  • Persona 4 Revival announcement (June 8)
  • Persona 5: The Phantom X global release (June 26)
  • Persona 3 Reload Switch 2 release (October 23)

Of course, it’s not like 2025 was completely devoid of Persona releases and related developments—it’s just that none of those centered on the much-anticipated sixth mainline entry. In a recent positive update, well-known leaker NateTheHate said that Persona 6 was not in development hell as of December 2025. As of this writing, the game is believed to have been in development for between four and six years, based on several Atlus job listings from July 2021 and some subsequent rumors.
