Silent Hill Developer Teases Switch 2 Exclusive Game

By newsgame

Bloober Team has offered a little bit more insight into its in-development Nintendo exclusive, Project M, claiming that the Switch 2 is the perfect home for the secretive horror title. Over the years, Nintendo hasn’t exactly been seen as the ideal home for horror games, but Bloober Team is aiming to change that with Project M.

For the past decade, Bloober Team has managed to make a name for itself as one of the most intriguing horror developers to watch. Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, and The Medium gave Bloober Team a solid reputation for making small-scale horror stories, but the developer was thrust into the spotlight when the team was hired by Konami to take over the Silent Hill 2 remake. Remaking such a beloved psychological horror game was no easy feat, but Bloober Team managed to pull it off, with the remake becoming one of the biggest games of 2024. This year, the developer introduced its own brand-new IP, Cronos: The New Dawn, and now, with a remake of the first Silent Hill and Project M in the pipeline, Bloober Team has its hands full. Both projects are exciting, but what makes Project M so intriguing is that the developer has been aiming to make a Nintendo exclusive for a while.

Bloober Team, the developer who will be handling the remake of the original Silent Hill game, shares an exciting update regarding the game.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Studio Director Says the Game ‘Proved People Wrong’

In a recent interview with Nintendo Insider, Bloober Team’s CEO, Piotr Babieno, expressed his love for Nintendo, claiming that his dream had always been to make horror games for its consoles. When discussing the early days of Bloober Team, Babieno said, “I decided to establish a game development studio that was meant to create horror games – yes, horror games – specifically for Nintendo platforms.” However, after a rocky development cycle on its first project, the studio risked closing down until an investor stepped in, saving the team. While Bloober Team got to live on, the investment required a focus on smaller horror games, pushing Babieno’s Nintendo ambitions aside for the moment. Now that Bloober Team has proven itself as a capable horror developer, Babieno finally found himself in a position that made his dream possible. Thus, Project M was born. Bloober Team’s next game is shrouded in mystery, but Babieno has revealed some exciting sources of inspiration.

Project M Has Some Compelling Influences

  • Resident Evil
  • Silent Hill
  • Limbo
  • Eternal Darkness

Babieno shared a fascinating blend of influences that are informing Project M’s development. He also claimed a bold direction for the horror title, saying, “Project M introduces a bold twist—one that no horror game has ever explored before. This is a vision that could only exist on Nintendo hardware.” With influences from games like Silent Hill and Eternal Darkness, it’s clear that Bloober Team is still sticking close to the psychological themes it’s recently been working with, while Resident Evil shows the studio’s further embrace of action-based survival horror. Limbo is one of the more interesting sources of inspiration, though, because it’s quite different from the others, since it’s a side-scrolling puzzle platformer. However, Cronos: The New Dawn demonstrated that the developer is fond of crafting puzzles that play into a dark atmosphere, and that definitely fits Limbo‘s vibe.

While Babieno didn’t share any concrete information about Project M’s plot, he felt confident that Bloober Team would be able to share more details “very soon.” As of now, the Nintendo exclusive horror game is being kept in the shadows, but with Babieno’s enthusiasm for the iconic company and excitement about what Bloober Team is crafting, it will be thrilling to see what the developer has in store for players.
