Best Regent Stars Build in Slay the Spire 2

By newsgame

The Regent is a tricky character to play in Slay the Spire 2, though players may find success by going all-in on his Star cards. While most of his cards are fairly straightforward, playing them in a way that doesn’t get players killed is a different story. The following is a Regent Stars build for Slay the Spire 2 that focuses on generating and spending as many Stars as possible per turn.

How to Play the Build

In a way, this build is a mix between the Ironclad’s Strength-stacking deck and the Silent’s Discard/Block Abrasive deck. The plan here is to stall until you build up enough Stars to cast a supercharged Stardust. Block and generate your Stars, and once you have enough, nuke your enemy with Stardust. We can achieve this loop by doing the following:

  1. Genesis, Hidden Cache, Venerate, and Shining Strike are your primary Star generators. Activate Genesis as soon as you can.
  2. Glow, Photon Cut, and Cosmic Indifference will help you search you deck for Block/Star generators.
  3. Crescent Spear, Reflect, and Black Hole are your main sources of damage outside of Stardust. Use these to chip away at enemy health bars.
  4. Use Know Thy Place to apply Vulnerable before nuking with Stardust. If you don’t have the former, settle with Falling Star.

Upgrade Priority

  1. Venerate
  2. Hidden Cache
  3. Genesis
  4. Particle Wall
  5. Glow
  6. Stardust

As a rule of thumb, prioritize upgrading cards that give you more Block and Stars. You don’t need to worry about damage much, as long as you can play Stardust at the right time. By default, Stardust only deals 5 damage per Star you spend. Upgrading it raises this value to 7 (10 if you have the Miniature Cannon relic).

Once you upgrade your Star generators, you’ll be able to easily stack up Stars to use as ammo for Stardust, and once you upgrade that, you’ll be well on your way to curb-stomping every enemy in Slay the Spire 2.

Keep your deck as small as possible (around 18 cards) and remove as many Strike and Defend cards as you can. Duplicate cards are not required.

Best Relics for Regent Stars Build

Ideally, you’ll want relics that give you Stars, Energy, Block, and Thorns. The following ones are great for a Stars build like the one above:

  • Kifuda lets you pick 3 cards to enchant with Adroit, which makes them grant you 3 Block when used.
  • Lunar Pastry gives you 1 Star at the end of your turn.
  • Bronze Scales gives you 3 Thorns.
  • Lantern gives you 1 Energy at the start of combat.
  • Candelabra gives you 2 Energy on your second turn.
  • Horn Cleat gives you 14 Block at the start of the second turn.
  • Gorget gives you 4 Plating, which will grant you Block after every turn.

Once you’re comfortable with your deck, try hitting as many Elite, Merchant, and Unknown nodes as possible. This will maximize your chances of getting the right relics. Kifuda is arguably the most important one here, as it lets you stall more effectively. This relic is occasionally by the Merchant.

Best Ancient Relics

  • Neow – Precise Scissors/Precarious Shears: Lets you remove cards at the start of the run.
  • Orobas – Touch of Orobas: Replaces Divine Right with Divine Destiny, giving you 6 Stars at the start of every combat.
  • Tezcatara – Yummy Cookie: Upgrade 4 cards.
  • Nonupeipe – Delicate Frond: At the start of each combat, fill all your empty potion slots with random potions.
  • Tanx – Sai: At the start of your turn, gain 7 Block.
  • Vakuu – Jeweled Mask: At the start of combat, put 1 Power card from your Draw Pile into your Hand. This is free to play this turn.
  • Dark – Runic Pyramid: You no longer discard your Hand.

Out of all the Ancient relics you can get, Touch of Orobas is pretty much the most important one since it kickstarts your Star economy. If you get the perfect hand on the first turn, you can deal massive damage straightaway.

Important Notes

  • You absolutely need a small deck of 15–18 cards to make this build work. This lets you generate Stars and Block rapidly, allowing you to keep up with some of the more dangerous enemies and bosses in the game.
  • Block and Dexterity Potions are your best friends. Success with this build hinges on your ability to set up big Stardust turns, and these potions will make sure you survive long enough to reach that point.
  • Only use Crescent Spear when there are important enemies on the field. If you’re sure you can survive at least 3 turns to charge up Stardust, then go ahead and turtle up. Otherwise, burn down priority targets ASAP.
  • This build has a very strict card requirement.
