Verso Build Guide in Expedition 33
Verso is a decent character in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Like any other character, Verso’s skills vary between an offensive and defensive approach to battle. He also has a variety of single-target and AoE attacks that help him play in most situations.
Compared to other characters, players might find Verso’s Rank gameplay a little underwhelming. He must hit and not get hit, and that’s basically his gimmick. However, he’s very different from the other characters, and there are more layers to his mechanics if players can find the best build for Verso in Expedition 33.
Updated on December 13, 2025, by Nahda Nabiilah: Like most characters in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Verso is highly versatile and can fit into several playstyles depending on how players build him. The free “Thank You” update introduced important new weapons and Luminas for his kit, giving him even more ways to contribute in combat. So, this guide will be updated to include the new improvements to Verso’s build in Expedition 33.
Verso Mid-Game Build In Expedition 33
Considering there are multiple weapons for Verso that allow him to apply Burn on hits from multiple sources, on top of the many, many Luminas that buff Base Attacks and the Burn gameplay, players can build a really strong Verso build in Clair Obscur Expedition 33. The main idea is to utilize Base Attack to maximize Burn on the target.

Strategy (Verso Mid Game Build)
In this Verso build in Expedition 33, he’ll mostly focus on Base Attacks to heavily debuff enemies with Burn, Powerless, Defenseless, and Slow. Using
Cheater alongside the multiple
Combo Attack I Luminas allows Verso to land so many Base Attack hits on enemies, which will build a lot of Burn DoTs. The amount of Burn status on enemies has no limit, so the number could go above 500 DoTs, and it will deal crazy damage at the start of the enemy’s turn.
Of course, this Verso build doesn’t work without having a weapon that applies Burn on Base Attacks, since Verso doesn’t have any skill that applies Burn. Both
Corpesoand
Confusoare good options for this strategy as they will help install the Burn status alongside buffing its damage.
Additionally, players can equip a large amount of Luminas that synergize with Verso’s Base Attacks, such as
Attack Lifesteal,
Charging Attack,
Empowering Attack,
Energising Attack I,
Exposing Attack, and much more. These Luminas will greatly improve Verso’s role and expand it.
Since Verso is going to be using his Base Attacks most of the time, it’s better to build him with skills that ensure his survivability, such as
Perfect Recovery and
From Fire (Verso). Players can also increase Verso’s utility by adding support skills like
Burden,
Powerful (Verso), and
Leadership. Additionally, Verso will keep reaching the S Rank while collecting 9 AP, which is a good excuse to unleash
Phantom Stars. It’s a good AoE attack that can stun enemies.
Finally, Verso must remain on S Rank to maximize the damage of each Burn DoT. If Verso’s Rank starts dropping, players can use
Overloadto fill his Rank and AP at the cost of losing his HP, which is not a big deal, since Verso can get the HP back immediately on the next Base Attack.

Strategy (Verso Best Build)
When building Verso’s Pictos and Luminas, players should focus on effects that boost successive skill damage, such as Frenzy, Feint, and Double Third. Luminas that increase Verso’s damage when certain conditions are met also work well for his build. Options like
Teamwork,
Glass Canon,
Burn Affinity, and
Warming Up all fit here. Each comes with its own drawbacks, but they can still be effective when used correctly.
Building Verso with multi-hit Pictos is important to maximize the damage of his
Steeled Strike. The attack has 13 hits, which means the multi-hit buff will affect it multiple times.
The most important combo for this Verso build is using the
Cheater, Clea’s Life, and
Full Strength Luminas. This setup revolves around the
Overload skill, which raises Verso’s Rank and fully restores his AP, but leaves him at 1 HP.
Cheater lets Verso play immediately, Clea’s Life heals him back to full HP, and
Full Strength boosts his damage while he’s at full HP.
Verso should use
Overload when he lacks the Rank or AP needed for
Steeled Strike. With this combo, the skill’s downside is covered, turning a risky move into a safe play with added benefits instead of a punishment.
