Z-A DLC Skips Flygon Mega Evolution
Warning: The following article contains Spoilers for Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC.While the new Pokemon Legends: Z-A expansion, Mega Dimension, has added some new Mega Evolution forms, the DLC sadly omitted Mega Flygon from the list despite requests from trainers over several years. While some critters like Chimecho and Raichu received new forms in Pokemon Legends: Z-A via the DLC, fans of Flygon will have to keep waiting.
Known as the Mystic Pokemon, Flygon first appeared in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. It is the fully evolved form of Trapinch and Vibrava, and is a Ground and Dragon dual-type monster that can whip up sandstorms with its wings. With the Levitate ability, the Pokemon becomes immune to Ground-type attacks, which adds to its resistance to types like Poison and Fire. While Flygon is particularly weak to Ice-type attacks, its balanced statistics and high HP make it a formidable and versatile Pokemon to build around. Unfortunately, even with the addition of returning pocket monsters like Farfetch’d and Mime Jr. in the Mega Dimension DLC, Flygon is one of several Pokemon still missing in Pokemon Legends: Z-A that also appeared in Pokemon X and Y.

While other Hoenn Pokemon like Chimecho received a Mega Evolution form in the Mega Dimension DLC, Flygon was sadly overlooked by The Pokemon Company. The omission did not go unnoticed by Pokemon Legends: Z-A players, as some took to the game’s subreddit to make light of the situation. A post by Salty145 highlighted how the colors of the Scovillainite Mega Stone bore a similar look to Flygon’s green and red color palette. The Redditor went on to highlight how Pokemon fans have wanted Flygon to get a Mega Evolution for years, only for the more recent Scovillain, which first appeared in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, to get a new form instead. Other Paldean Pokemon that received Mega Evolutions in the Mega Dimension expansion include Baxcalibur, Glimmora, and Tatsugiri.
In response, Pokemon fans chimed in by stating how some monsters like Garchomp received a second Mega Evolution form, namely Mega Garchomp Z, while Flygon remained missing from the new expansion altogether. While Flygon’s continued exclusion from the game is unfortunate, it sadly has some precedence to it. During datamining for the Mega Dimension DLC, Pokemon fans uncovered no evidence that Flygon would be in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, let alone receive a Mega Evolution. Flygon’s latest appearance remains Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, where it could be found in the Terarium’s Savanna Biome after purchasing The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. Ergo, fans holding out hope for Flygon to receive a power-up from The Pokemon Company must keep waiting.
Although Flygon was shut out of Pokemon Legends: Z-A and the Mega Dimension DLC, the next generation of Pokemon games could offer the Mystic Pokemon another chance to soar. It remains to be seen if Flygon will appear in Pokemon Gen 10 or if The Pokemon Company has further surprises in store for Pokemon Legends: Z-A fans to enjoy.
In Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Mega Dimension expansion, trainers who have already beaten the main story of the base game will gain access to new Hyperspace wormholes that appear throughout Lumiose City. These wormholes lead to Hyperspace Lumiose, a parallel facsimile that houses powerful Pokemon that can exceed the usual level cap of 100, including Mega Evolution forms like Mega Absol Z that had not appeared in the Pokemon series before. Trainers will need to ensure their full team of available Pokemon are at level 100 and should set aside plenty of time and resources before exploring the various parts of Hyperspace Lumiose that come and go. Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Mega Dimension DLC is currently available for $29.99 on the Nintendo eShop.
