New Knives Out Game is Coming to Netflix
Streaming giant Netflix has been investing heavily in creating its own video game platform, and the company is now poised to take an even bigger leap into the realm of gaming by transforming its smash-hit original murder mystery film Knives Out into a video game, Dead Man’s Party: A Knives Out Game. Director Rian Johnson’s Knives Out sees James Bond actor Daniel Craig taking on the role of renowned detective Benoit Blanc, as the global sleuth attempts to solve a murder while interrogating a stubborn eclectic family. The film received mass praise from critics and audiences alike, spurring multiple sequels including Glass Onion and the upcoming Wake Up Dead Man, and Netflix appears to be leaning even more heavily on the franchise by putting Knives Out at the forefront of the streamer’s gaming efforts.
Netflix’s recent efforts to increase its presence in the video game sphere has largely focused on adding existing games to its dedicated mobile app, with the newest addition being Red Dead Redemption coming to Netflix. However, the company also seems to be taking an interest in expanding its own internal library with its rolodex of IPs, and Knives Out is one of the first big-name projects to take center stage for Netflix gaming.
Dead Man’s Party: A Knives Out Game Coming to Netflix
Developed by The Game Band, Dead Man’s Party: A Knives Out Game is a social deduction party game where players can star in their own murder mystery. The game will require players to investigate one another while individuals fight to convince everyone else that they are not the killer. For the player who is the killer, distractions and diversions must be implemented and votes will need to be swayed before the other players, and that pesky Benoit Blanc, out them for their crime. Unlike other Netflix games, Dead Man’s Party: A Knives Out Game will be playable on a TV without having to download an additional game app.
For fans of games like Among Us, Dead Man’s Party: A Knives Out Game offers a similar experience, in which verbally persuading the other players to vote in one’s favor will be the key to success. The specifics of the gameplay and the game’s replayability ironically remain a mystery at the time of writing, with Netflix noting that the game and further details on how to play are “coming soon.”
With more Netflix video game crossovers on the horizon, many are curious to see just how profitable this new multimedia model will be, especially considering competitors like Disney+ are also looking to invest more heavily in gaming integration. Whether the popularity of Knives Out will help Dead Man’s Party: A Knives Out Game to draw users to the gaming side of Netflix remains to be seen, but having exclusive games based on hit in-house IPs could be just what the streamer needs to stand out in the crowded gaming industry.
