Borderlands 4 Shift Code for 3 Golden Keys Expires December 16

Borderlands 4 players have until December 16 to claim three Golden Keys via a newly shared SHiFT code. While the offer is short-lived, it is far from the only Borderlands 4 freebie currently up for grabs.

Gearbox Software has been regularly distributing Golden Keys and other in-game rewards since Borderlands 4’s critically acclaimed launch in mid-September 2025. As of this writing, more than a dozen active SHiFT codes are available, offering various digital bonuses to fans.

Adding to the pile, Gearbox co-founder and CEO Randy Pitchford has recently shared yet another SHiFT code, BZRB3-W65HT-CFJBC-B3JT3-K36XR, which grants three Borderlands 4 Golden Keys. The coupon is valid until next Tuesday, December 16, and must be redeemed by visiting Gearbox’s website, logging into a SHiFT account, navigating to the Rewards section, and interacting with its single-input form.

As is typical with Gearbox giveaways, the mid-December Borderlands 4 SHiFT code can be redeemed once per supported platform—in this instance, up to four times in total—since in-game progress is tied to individual storefronts. SHiFT does not automatically filter out previously used platforms, instead always presenting the full list: Steam, PSN, Xbox Live, and the Epic Games Store. Selecting a platform already used will trigger a “This SHiFT code has already been redeemed” message, while choosing a valid one will confirm successful redemption.

While many SHiFT codes, including the newly released one, are time-limited, the restriction applies only to redemption. Golden Keys themselves can be used at any time, allowing players to save them indefinitely. Redeeming the December 2025 code sends three keys to the player’s inventory, which can then be used to open Golden Chests found in one of the looter shooter’s hub areas. Opinions vary on the best time to use Golden Keys, but the general consensus is not to be afraid to spend a few early on to offset poor Borderlands 4 loot drops.

After mitigating early-game RNG, it may be wise to save some Golden Keys for later. Loot from Golden Chests scales to the character’s level, making early drops quickly obsolete. Borderlands 4 currently has a level cap of 50, which Gearbox already confirmed will be raised in future DLC, consistent with previous mainline entries in the long-running series. While using Golden Keys mid-game isn’t worthless, it’s usually not needed; by the time the player has a viable build, they should be able to clear content efficiently enough to be swimming in loot before long, increasing the chances of finding something that synergizes with their setup and brings it to the next level, both literally and figuratively. Saving Golden Keys for later use is especially practical for players planning to replay the game.

While there is currently no official timeline for when Borderlands 4 will raise its level cap, the next milestone on the looter-shooter’s roadmap is Bounty Pack 2, scheduled for Q1 2026. The upcoming add-on is set to introduce new Legendary gear and missions, along with one additional boss, a new vehicle, and multiple other novelties.
